The Jurassic World Rebirth sequel just received an exciting update, and it could be what finally gets Glen Powell to join one of the most iconic movie franchises of all time after he initially turned it down. The Jurassic World franchise has done a phenomenal job of revitalizing the larger Jurassic Park brand on the big screen since its 2015 debut. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard became the faces of the Jurassic Park franchise for a generation after starring in the first Jurassic World trilogy. However, in a shocking turn of events, the characters were left behind to usher in a new chapter for this modern take on the franchise. That started with 2025's Jurassic World Rebirth, the first movie without the duo. To replace Pratt and Howard, the Jurassic World franchise went after three major stars. Leading the new sci-fi movie were Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. All of them understand franchises with Johansson and Ali — through Luke Cage, not the scrapped Blade movie — were in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Bailey stars in Netflix's hit romance series Bridgerton and the Wicked movies. That would be Glen Powell, who rose to global stardom with 2022's Top Gun: Maverick and has gone on to appear in major movies like Anyone but You, Twisters, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Powell turned down a Jurassic World Rebirth role, but a sequel update could change his mind. Jurassic World Rebirth Sequel's New Director Update Could Be What Lures Glen Powell Back In Talking to The Hollywood Reporter in May 2024, Powell addressed the fact that he was offered a role in Jurassic World Rebirth, but chose not to be part of the movie despite loving the dinosaur franchise. According to the fan-favorite actor, even though he has wanted to join the Jurassic franchise all his life and Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park is one of his favorite movies, Powell read the script and thought his presence would not help the film. Powell's comments make it clear that he would be open to joining Jurassic World Rebirth's sequel if he felt he could contribute to the franchise he holds in such high regard. Well, the perfect update in terms of that coming true has recently arrived. After Gareth Edwards helmed 2025's Jurassic World Rebirth, the director departed the sequel due to creative differences. According to a recent update from The Hollywood Reporter, J.A. Bayona is the studio's top choice to direct the next Jurassic World movie. Bayona is a known name for franchise fans, as he directed 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which is regarded as perhaps the darkest and most horror-like of all Jurassic Park movies thus far. Well, Bayona's involvement would suggest a similarly horror-themed tone for the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth sequel, which could speak to Powell's sensibilities. After all, his Hulu sports comedy series, Chad Powers, just had a wild genre switch for its final season 2 episodes, going full thriller with horror elements. As a co-creator of the show, Powell could be drawn to Bayona's vision after having turned down Jurassic World Rebirth. Glen Powell Is Already Part Of The Wider Jurassic World Franchise Adding to the list of reasons why Powell might be game to join the movie franchise after passing on Jurassic World Rebirth is the fact that the actor has already played a role in it in another medium. While the star has yet to appear in a Jurassic World movie, Powell voiced the charismatic and courageous camp counselor Dave in Netflix's animated Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous series. The Netflix Jurassic World TV show went on for five seasons, with other actors like Wednesday's Jenna Ortega, The Good Place's Jameela Jamil, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Stephanie Beatriz, and more also appearing on the show. While Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous had kids as main characters, it was still heavy on horror elements. As such, Powell going from the animated series to the Jurassic World Rebirth sequel, if Bayona directs, would be a seamless move, perhaps even playing Dave in live-action.
