Jurassic World Rebirth Sequel Has Been Officially Confirmed

Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Sequel Hit With Major Setback As Director Exits Published Aug 6, 2026, 3:59 PM EDT Jennifer is a TV and Movie News Editor at ScreenRant. She started her journey in entertainment media in 2022 when she first joined Valnet at CBR before coming to ScreenRant. Jennifer loves TV, especially science fiction. She also loves late-night talk shows, due to her insomnia. Alien: Earth is definitely one of her favorite shows, and she jumps on any chance she gets to write about it. Even on her days off, she will claim an Alien Earth article if one is available. Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon are two of her favorite late-night hosts, and Conan O'Brien before he left his show. Her Alien: Earth coverage for ScreenRant is by far the work that she is most proud of so far. She was initially a finance and political editor, but her passion for pop culture convinced her to transition into entertainment journalism. During her off time, she loves to binge-watch cooking shows such as Kitchen Nightmares. Jennifer also loves spending time with her daughter and cherishes every moment of it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the most recent installment of the massive franchise, which grossed almost $900 million, will be returning. The cast of the film, Scarlett Johansson (Zora Bennett), Jonathan Bailey (Dr. Henry Loomis), and Mahershala Ali (Duncan Kincaid), are expected to come back for the upcoming chapter. Unfortunately, director Gareth Edwards has decided to part ways with the franchise. Insiders claimed that the director is exiting the project due to creative differences. However, Edwards seemed to have left on good terms, as the studio stated that working with the filmmaker had been an incredible experience. So, it can be speculated that the split was on fairly good terms. Rumors regarding a sequel first surfaced in early September 2025, despite Edwards' hesitancy to commit to another installment. Earlier last year, in July, the director explained that Jurassic World Rebirth was intended to be a standalone movie. However, the film's strong performance and the huge fanbase behind the franchise seemed to pull through, making room for another chapter in the series. As the excitement around a potential sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth continued to build, so did speculation about whether a follow-up was necessary. Viewers began questioning whether another film would be just a quick cash grab for Universal. Judging by box office numbers alone, there’s a strong argument that money would be the main motivation behind a sequel. Jurassic World Rebirth is currently the fourth highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide, trailing only A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Stitch, and Ne Zha 2. A sequel would almost certainly be another major win for the studio. As money-driven as this change of heart might seem, the audience reaction to Jurassic World Rebirth could also be enough to justify a sequel. While other genres have struggled to draw in crowds, audiences are still showing up in droves for the franchise's dinosaurs and protagonists. So, it's fair to say that it would be mutually beneficial for both Universal and viewers as long as there is enough content to warrant a good story. Release Date July 2, 2025 Runtime 134 minutes Director Gareth Edwards Cast Jonathan Bailey Dr. Henry Loomis
