He then drilled an effort from just inside the area into the far bottom corner. But rather than celebrate his quick feet, the England international raised both hands to the home crowd in apology for the poor standard of the season overall. The Frenchman, who claimed he was told by manager Alvaro Arbeloa that he was the fourth-choice forward on his return from injury, was brought on to a wall of boos and whistles from the crowd. It is just the latest display of frustration from the Real faithful, many among whom signed a petition to get Mbappe out of the club. The Spanish giants have suffered a second straight trophyless season, and endured chaos both on and off the pitch. But the temperature in the dressing room has only climbed since. The tension between Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde got so bad that the pair had a physical fight at the club’s training facility. Valverde suffered a brain injury as a result of the clash and both stars were fined €500,000 for their involvement. The anger goes right to the top, with club president Florentino Perez convening a press conference earlier this week to blast media for “attacking” Real. And to add insult to injury, fierce rivals Barcelona wrapped up their LaLiga title with games to spare on Sunday after beating Madrid at the Nou Camp, the first time the league has ever been decided by El Clasico. The club are looking to right the ship by bringing in a new manager over the summer, with Jose Mourinho top of the list. The Special One is nearing a return to the Santiago Bernabeu, thanks in part to Perez pushing for a deal. Comment now
