Jana Sena Party MP Lingamaneni Ramesh Jana Sena Party MP Lingamaneni Ramesh has written to Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal requesting the establishment of a Bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in Amaravati and the inclusion of Guntur, Krishna, Anantapur, Chittoor, Cuddapah, Kurnool, Nellore and Prakasam districts under its jurisdiction. At present, the ITAT has a Bench in Visakhapatnam serving Andhra Pradesh, with jurisdiction over the undivided East Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and West Godavari districts. Mr. Ramesh said the existing arrangement had its origins in the territorial jurisdiction of the erstwhile unified State of Andhra Pradesh and had continued after bifurcation.Following the reorganisation of the State and the establishment of separate High Courts for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it had become necessary to review and rationalise the territorial jurisdiction of the ITAT so that taxpayers and appellants from Andhra Pradesh could pursue their cases within the State, he said.Mr. Ramesh said Amaravati was centrally located and well connected to several districts and that the proposed Bench would improve accessibility for taxpayers, appellants, advocates, Chartered Accountants and authorised representatives from central and southern Andhra Pradesh. It would also reduce the time, travel and expenditure involved in travelling to Visakhapatnam or Hyderabad to pursue income-tax appeals, he said.
