Josh Duhamel’s steamy Western series that had fans ‘hooked’ returns to Netflix today

Today (July 23), they dropped the second season of the steamiest Western this side of Yellowstone: Ransom Canyon. Based on the book series of the same name by Jodi Thomas, this series follows a troubled rancher, Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) and local dance hall owner Quinn (Minka Kelly) as they live their lives in the small town of Ransom Canyon. The first series ended with Staten and Quinn finally realising they were made for each other. Sadly, their brief romance came to a cruel end when Quinn was forced to take a job in New York as a pianist for the New York Philharmonic to save her dance hall. Season 2 then picks up where the first left off, with Quinn and Staten trying to make their relationship work. However, when new faces mosey into town, things will never be the same again. Never let me go, Staten (Picture: AnnA Kooris/Netflix) The first series has a 72% audience score, with @delaneyfinch1 calling it ‘a charming and emotional Western romance’ while @RT53717909 said they were ‘hooked’. @SeanG was similarly enthusiastic, writing: ‘Brilliant writing and directing that left me unwilling to wait for the next day to find out what was happening. I binged the whole season in 3 days.’ It’s not just on Rotten Tomatoes where people raved about the first series either. Netflix users were hooked on season 1 (Picture: Netflix/Jeff Neumann) On IMDb, user devadrianb wrote: ‘If you’re a fan of emotionally rich dramas like Yellowstone and Virgin River, [Ransom Canyon] is about to become your next obsession.’ Now it’s worth noting that the initial reviews haven’t been kind to Ransom Canyon season two. Screen Rant called it ‘derivative, plain, and mostly uninspired’, while Digital Mafia Talkies claimed the show had ‘taken a nose dive in an attempt to become more interesting and twisty.’ Quinn, aren’t you supposed to be in the Big Apple? (Picture: Netflix) Still, those watching at home have been kinder on the show. @A_funkee on X said: ‘Ransom Canyon was the mature love story I needed! A lil more realistic than most. Love that show’ @JoaoNsita also said they loved the show so much, adding, ‘it’s good to be back.’ Meanwhile @fvszsosoo claimed: ‘The first episode of Ransom Canyon is full of revelations. Oh my god.’ So if you’re at a loose end and looking to spend some time with some sweaty lovelorn cowboys, why not stop off at a little town called Ransom Canyon.
