Austin Abrams stars as a scuba diver named Jay Gardiner, who goes into the ocean to search for his father’s remains, only to be swallowed by a whale. Trapped inside the animal with limited oxygen and no resources, he must find a way to survive and escape. The film is directed and produced by Brian Duffield. The movie is adapted from Daniel Kraus’s 2023 novel of the same name. The screenplay was also written by Duffield and Kraus. Check out the trailer below: The newly released trailer for Whalefall offers an anxiety-inducing sneak peek at Abrams's character, whose life turns into a nightmare when he is swallowed alive by a whale. Once trapped inside, he has roughly one hour to find a way out before his chances of survival disappear. With time and oxygen running out, he is forced to rely on lessons and advice from his father, Mitt Gardiner (Josh Brolin), as he desperately searches for an escape. The trailer leans heavily into the film’s claustrophobic setting, showing Abrams struggling in the darkness and confined space inside the whale. The ticking clock, underwater setting, and constant sense of danger offer viewers a closer look at the intense tone of the film. The movie adaptation of Whalefall was confirmed in August 2023, when Imagine Entertainment secured the screen rights in a pre-emptive deal. In March 2024, 20th Century Studios acquired distribution rights following a bidding process and brought Duffield on board to direct and co-write the script alongside the novel's author.
