Josh Bell’s Mutual Option Declined

Twins designated hitter Josh Bell is officially a free agent, the MLBPA announced today. His contract had a $10MM mutual option with a $1.25MM buyout. It’s not immediately clear whether Bell or the team declined their end of the deal, but the result is the same. There was never any real chance of the mutual option being picked up; it’s been 12 years since a mutual option anywhere in MLB was exercised by both parties. Bell now heads back to the open market in search of a new contract. More to come. View Comments (2)
