The star brought a sheet featuring pictures of two controversial decisions which didn’t go his way – two studs-up tackles from Cristian Romero and Lee Kang-in, who both escaped without a red card. He then slammed referee Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias, saying: “It’s all been very strange. “The referee was known a week in advance… and he isn’t an international referee, which suggests he isn’t exactly a top-tier official. “The poor guy came here and couldn’t handle the pressure.” It’s safe to say that fans were not impressed by the Portuguese tactician’s outburst. One fan wrote: “This man still thinks we’re in 2008. What were they smoking when they chose to rehire this guy?” And a fourth concluded: “This ain’t the 2000s bro.” His complaints were not entirely without basis, with Romero lucky to avoid a red card after his studs made grisly contact with Jude Bellingham‘s knee during a 50/50 challenge. Lee Kang-in was even more lucky, with his clumsy tackle on Fede Valverde resulting in his studs raking the Real man’s leg, before crunching down on his ankle. The challenge was not referred to VAR and Lee got away without a caution. The official Real position seems to be that they were hard done by, with the club’s official match report slamming the officiating.
