Jose Mourinho labels club legend ‘spoiled’ just weeks after becoming Real Madrid manager

JOSE MOURINHO has only been back at Real Madrid for two months and is already rocking the boat. In his newly-released Netflix documentary, the Special One dished the dirt on club legend Iker Casillas. He recalled: “The first thing he said to me was, ‘I’ve come to ask for more vacation time for the national team players’. “In the second he asked me to delay training by one hour because at the time I wanted to start the session there was a lot of traffic in Madrid. “In the third he told me they didn’t want to go to the hotel, that they preferred to meet on match day and go directly to the stadium. “I realised they were spoiled.” That was only the start of the friction between the pair. By the 2012/13 season, Mourinho had blown a fuse at Casillas trying to ease tensions with El Clasico foes Barcelona for the sake of the Spanish national team dressing room. After ten consecutive seasons as No1, Casillas was shockingly benched by Mourinho and replaced by Diego Lopez. That, according to ex-Real midfielder Sami Khedira, was the start of Mourinho’s ending. And the burnt-out Portuguese left Madrid in 2013. Khedira said: “Iker was a legend of Real Madrid, loved by the fans. “He benched him and did not speak to him, spoke badly about him in the media. The dressing room became hell. “After that, the relationship between Jose and many players like Cristiano Ronaldo and the Spaniards broke down. “And those players were very important for the atmosphere in the dressing room, which became poisoned.” Mourinho will hope for a more harmonious environment this time round as he gears a new generation of players up for their LaLiga opener against Espanyol on August 22.
