John Terry claims Jose Mourinho rewarded him with a Dubai holiday for getting booked deliberately but fans smell a rat

JOHN TERRY has claimed he was given a Dubai holiday by Jose Mourinho for getting a yellow card, but clued-up fans have questioned that version of events. Chelsea and England icon Terry was chatting to Jimmy Bullard about his time at Stamford Bridge under the Portuguese boss. Speaking on the first episode of FC Bullard The Show, Terry said: “We played, I think it was like the second round of the FA Cup, might have been, I don’t know, Walsall away or something. He comes to me and he was like, ‘You have to miss that one because we play Man United at home after Walsall. I want you to miss the FA Cup game, so you have to get booked the next three league games.’ “So I get booked the first game, get booked the second game. I’m on four bookings. I’m one booking away from having a one-game suspension, which would be Walsall away.” Terry continued by explaining how, in said game, he took a throw-in and was told to get booked. He added: “There’s a throw-in in the left corner and I said to one of the boys, ‘Leave it.’ Leaves it, and I’m standing there with the ball like this. I’m not throwing it because I know the ref’s going, ‘Come on.’ “We’re winning the game, and he’s going, ‘Come on, throw it.’ And I’m going, ‘There’s no option. I got no options, Ref, mate.’ “I’m waiting about two minutes. In the end, he comes over and books me. I drop the ball and just go running back. It was just so good.” However, fans believed Terry might have forgotten some key details about his career, or at least combined different stories into one. Indeed, the former Blues captain never picked up three yellow cards in a row in the league under Mourinho. Terry also never played against Walsall in the FA Cup, though did play against them in the League Cup and pick up a booking in the 52nd minute of a third-round clash in 2015. Another fan highlighted how Terry might have combined three memories into one, writing: “He’s mixed up three events into one. Scunthorpe 2005: Rested before the Man Utd game. “Huddersfield 2006: Dubai break with Super Frank. “Wolves 2011: Deliberately got a 90th-minute 5th yellow to miss a cup tie. This was under Villas-Boas.” Then Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas denied the booking against Wolves, which allowed him to serve a ban in a quarter-final tie against Liverpool before a tough run of games against the likes of Newcastle, Manchester City and Tottenham, was intentional. AVB said at the time: “Terry got a yellow card from a throw-in. Ashley Cole was looking for the best options and couldn’t find any so Terry’s out on Tuesday. “It wasn’t a deliberate yellow card as they’re not allowed by UEFA. Frank Lampard was also on four yellow cards and we didn’t force it.” In 2014, Terry was given permission by Mourinho to have a midseason holiday in November with his family. In 2010, Carlo Ancelotti similarly gave Terry permission to visit his wife in Dubai when allegations surfaced claiming he had an affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of the England left-back Wayne Bridge.
