John Oliver Reviews ‘You Can See Everything’: Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans Are ‘Complete Lunatics’

Unlike his HBO network-mate Bill Maher, who’s been embroiled in a bizarre pissing match with his dinner-mate Donald Trump, John Oliver has been laser-focused on the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Just last week, Oliver dedicated the bulk of “Last Week Tonight” to exposing the disturbing ties between MAGA midterm candidates and neo-Nazis. And Sunday night, he focused not only on how Trump’s rallies have gotten increasingly unhinged, but also that most Republican midterm candidates have been distancing themselves from Trump given his low approval ratings. During Trump’s recent midterm convention, he led the crowd in a pledge to vote red during the midterms that began: “I pledge, to the greatest president in the history of the United States, that loves us so much he can’t even breathe..,” followed by, “You know what happens if you don’t vote? You go to hell.” “OK, there is so much there, from asking them to repeat a sentence clearly too long for them to the line, ‘Loves us so much he can’t even breathe,’” quipped Oliver. “What in the Paramore lyrics is he even talking about there?! As for ‘vote or you’ll go to hell,’ I’ll say this: Huge, if true. Imagine if Jeffrey Epstein got to hell and said, ‘Oh, because all the stuff?’ And the Devil said, ‘No — lack of civic engagement.’” Trump has also intimated a number of times that a vote for the Republicans during the midterms is a vote for him, though a recent report in The New Yorker revealed that “more than 99% of GOP ad spending is now going to spots that do not mention Trump.” When Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers of Michigan was asked by Kristen Welker on NBC News’ Meet the Press, “Is a vote for you a vote for the Trump agenda?” Rogers claimed, “I’m apologizing, I’m having some difficulty in my earpiece.” Cue Oliver: “Yeah, nice try, Mike, but that was pretty obvious! I haven’t seen someone dodge a question that shamelessly since I spent three hours gasping aloud at two complete lunatics who’ve never blinked once in their lives,” before pointing to a picture of convicted scam artist Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans in the Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim documentary “You Can See Everything.” And apparently, the staff of “Last Week Tonight” has become so obsessed with the doc that it’s getting in the way of the show. “If you want to talk about that movie, please contact anyone who works here,” said Oliver, adding, “it’s derailed our workflow to an unacceptable degree.”
