John Grisham is an author best known for his bestselling legal thrillers from the 1990s, which were adapted into movies by some major directors and stars, including The Firm, The Pelican Brief (both 1993), The Client (1994), A Time to Kill (1996), and The Rainmaker (1997). There have also been several television series based on his books, including The Client (1995–1996) on CBS and USA Network's The Firm (2011–2012). Another TV series is The Rainmaker, which has officially started a new era on streaming. Based on Grisham's 1995 novel, USA Network's legal drama premiered in August 2025, following an ambitious young attorney who, after being fired from a prestigious law firm, joins forces with a small-time ambulance chaser and soon finds himself going up against his former firm in court. Grisham's The Rainmaker Has Begun A New Era Of Streaming Dominance On Amazon Following its season 2 premiere on October 16, The Rainmaker has charted on Amazon VOD for the first time, let alone rank No. 1 on their Top 10 TV shows in the United States for today, October 20. It ranks above American Horror Story, South Park, Marshals, Gravesend, Grey's Anatomy, Tulsa King, Tyler Perry's Sistas, Anne of Green Gables, and Landman. The Rainmaker season 1 is streaming on Prime Video and Peacock. The Legal Series Has Proven Itself One Of Grisham's Biggest Hits Since the 1990s, the golden era of Grisham adaptations, USA's Rainmaker has proven itself as one of the author's biggest hits. His past TV series, The Client and The Firm, never really caught on and lasted only one season. The Rainmaker has already outlasted them with two seasons, and based on its early streaming success, should be primed for a season 3 renewal. However, the show has been slightly less successful with critics, with season 1 sitting at a 55% Rotten Tomatoes score, and The Rainmaker reviews claiming that the show sacrifices the distinct flavor of Grisham's novel for a formulaic courtroom drama – delivering only occasional sparks of excitement rather than a steady downpour of thrills. Season 1 has a much better 83% audience score. Season 2 does not yet qualify for a Rotten Tomatoes score, with only one positive review from Brittany Frederick, who writes, "The Rainmaker season 2 features a whole new case for the USA drama, but the returning cast gives it the same snark, sparkle and irrepressible grit." With its streaming success picking up, The Rainmaker may prove that Grisham's legal thrillers still have plenty of fight left in them.
