John David Washington to Star in Supernatural Horror Thriller ‘Mime’

Getty Images Logo text Coming on top of a competitive situation, Sony’s Screen Gems has landed Mime, a supernatural horror project that has John David Washington attached to star. Nikyatu Jusu, who made her feature directorial debut with the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Nanny, will direct. Plot details are being kept behind an invisible wall. Stephen Herman wrote the spec screenplay, which is based on his original idea. Producing are Matt Tolmach, who packaged the project, as well as The Black Phone filmmaker Scott Derrickson via his Crooked Highway banner. Washington will also produce along with Tolmach’s partner Camila Grove. The WME-repped Washington starred in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, his breakout, and then went on to star in films such as Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi thriller The Creator. He last appeared in the 2024 drama The Piano Lesson. Jusu’s Nanny was a psychological horror that starred Anna Diop as am immigrant nanny whose life in America becomes derailed by visions. Amazon and Blumhouse teamed up to acquire it. Jusu is repped by CAA, Gaby Mena and Natalia Williams at M88 and Granderson Des Rochers.
