Her deep cinema love traces back to age 11, when she equipped herself with a spiral-bound notebook, rated all the films she watched, and declared herself a critic. About a decade later, she received a BA from Wesleyan University, where she studied Film, Environmental Studies, and Writing. Hannah’s short film, Toxic Faucets, has screened at numerous film festivals, including the Independent Film Festival of Boston (IFFBoston). As a Movie News writer now, she draws upon her vast experience studying, making, and analyzing film as she approaches dynamic breaking stories. One of its main characters may be dead, but Imperfect Women is officially going beyond limited series treatment. The Apple TV title is a whodunnit drama with a star-studded leading cast including Joel Kinnaman, Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss, Corey Stoll, and Kate Mara. The series, which aired in spring of this year, delves into the mysterious murder of a rich woman, revealing secrets about her life along the way. Imperfect Women was co-created by Justin Hillian and Annie Weisman based on the book of the same name by Araminta Hall. In addition to starring, Moss and Washington also served as executive producers on the show. According to an Apple TV press release, Imperfect Women is extending beyond its limited series format. The series has been renewed for a second season, featuring an original story from creator-showrunners Hillian and Weisman. The story, according to this report, will center around Eleanor. Both Moss and Washington will return to their producing roles, and Washington will also appear on-screen. The story specifics have yet to be revealed, but it will be set on Martha's Vineyard. Washington spoke out about the show's renewal and focus on Eleanor: “We were thrilled to see how deeply these women and their stories resonated with audiences around the world, and I’m so excited to step back into Eleanor’s shoes. She’s intelligent and strong, but she also finds herself navigating complicated and sometimes messy situations. We at Simpson Street, along with our incredible partners at Apple and Love & Squalor Pictures, can’t wait to explore a fresh chapter for her and share where this story takes us next.” Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss elaborated: “After a wildly entertaining first season, driven by the performances of Kerry, Lizzie and Kate, we jumped at the opportunity to expand the world of ‘Imperfect Women’ through Kerry’s fan-favorite character of Eleanor. Annie and Justin’s thrilling new story felt like an exciting and natural next chapter. We can’t wait for fans to experience it." Imperfect Women's surprise season 2 renewal comes after the series was extremely popular on the platform. The show quickly catapulted up the rankings on the platform's top 10 most watched TV list shortly after its release, and maintained its slot for some time. Imperfect Women managed to do this despite being fairly polarizing. The series has a 45% Tomatometer and 47% audience Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, including a 6 out of 10-star review from ScreenRant's Matthew Rudoy. Even with these mixed reviews, the show clearly had enough of a following to earn a second season. It even has what could have been an additional barrier: there is no sequel book to the novel version of Imperfect Women. This forces the show to create a new story, which the showrunners are set to do as per the press release. Even without material to adapt directly from Hall, Imperfect Women should still be well set up to deliver a successful season 2. There is precedent on other networks for this expansion from what would have been a limited series. HBO did it to great success with Big Little Lies season 2, and Netflix announced plans to make a second season of The Perfect Couple. Also, Washington is an Emmy winner and won over fans with her portrayal of Eleanor. Between these precedent examples, the appeal of Washington, and the popularity of Imperfect Women season 1, the series is set up to have a successful next installment.
