Jodie’s disgusting act against dad Doug could destroy him forever on Coronation Street

Her delightfully deranged scheme to torment her half-sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) and seduce her husband David (Jack P Shepherd) hit a serious snag recently with the reappearance of her dad Doug (Steve Evets). This man is a walking talking threat to Jodie’s scheme. It was strongly implied that she had him admitted to a psychiatric ward where he was being treated for bipolar disorder. This is where Shona was reunited with her estranged dad earlier this year. He also gave her some of the best advice we’ve heard on Corrie this year – don’t trust a word her sister says. Unfortunately. Jodie scared her dad into into silence. Since his absence, Jodie’s cuckoo-in-the-nest quest has turned decidedly dark. Gone are the days of trying to lure a drunken David into bed by pretending to be her sister. We’re talking full on Hand That Rocks T’Cradle. Most recently, Now the Cobbles Cuckoo in the nest has passed the point of no return, Jodie did the unforgivable by endangering Shona’s premature daughter baby Harper and pouring boiling water into her bath tub. Not only that, but the twisted sister almost caused a house fire by intentionally placing a burnt cake back while Shona slept on the sofa. All part of her plan to make it look like Shona can’t cope with being a mum. This huge escalation is not entirely out of the blue. Jodie’s been getting progressively more unhinged, keeping a stolen gun in the house and even assaulting Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien). Fans have not been shy about making their disapproval known, taking to social media in droves to complain that the gothic plot has ‘gone too far’. Hopefully, the arrival of Doug will result in Jodie finally becoming undone, or at least shed some light on the motivations behind her troubling actions. We already know that Jodie’s obsessive desire for revenge against Shonastems from her sister fleeing the house as a pregnant teenage mum, abandoning her to their toxic dad all those years ago. It’s clear that Jodie has got ‘Daddy issues’ written through her like a stick of Brighton Rock. Now we’re about to see how far Jodie is prepared to go to stop her dad from interfering with her plans to steal Shona’s family, in next week’s episodes of Coronation Street. When Jodie enters carrying a huge bunch of flowers and makes out that they’re a gift from her date, Shona’s impressed. But when Shona tells David she found out from Mary (Patti Clare) that Jodie bought herself the flowers, David confirms that her date was cancelled when she was in the salon. It turns out to be just another manipulation. And when Doug gets involved, let’s just say it doesn’t end well for Daddy dearest. Especially when Jodie rummages through Doug’s belongings and swaps his anti-psychotic drugs for ordinary painkillers.
