The time-bending mysteries of The End of Oak Street are about to return. Written and directed by It Follows' David Robert Mitchell and produced by J.J. Abrams, the sci-fi mystery thriller primarily centers on the Platt family as their eponymous suburban street in Michigan is suddenly transported to a world filled with prehistoric creatures, putting them in a harrowing fight for survival and to determine the truth behind their journey. Led by Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, The End of Oak Street scored solid reviews from critics upon its August 2026 release, with praise directed towards Mitchell's direction, its good-hearted family story and central mystery. Nearly three months after the film first hit theaters, The End of Oak Street has officially been set for an HBO Max streaming premiere. The J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi mystery thriller will debut on the Skydance platform on November 13, while subsequently making its debut on HBO's TV channel on Saturday, November 14 at 8 p.m. EST. Going into its theatrical release, The End of Oak Street had a lot of anticipation riding on it. For Abrams, it marked his first major venture back into the world of sci-fi mystery storytelling, having largely spent the past few years on the producorial side of things, including Prime Video's hit Batman: Caped Crusader series, and co-creating the short-lived HBO Max crime thriller Duster. One of the biggest questions surrounding the film prior to its release was The End of Oak Street's potential connection to Abrams' Cloverfield franchise, given the sci-fi nature of its plot. Abrams ultimately offered a definitive answer just days prior to the film's release, confirming that while following the theories had been fun, they were ultimately unconnected as the two stood apart. Moreover, The End of Oak Street came in the midst of Hathaway's mammoth year of releases, which began with the psychological horror film Mother Mary, followed by the long-awaited The Devil Wears Prada 2, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and adaptation of Colleen Hoover's Verity. Despite the buzzy anticipation, high-profile cast and solid reviews, The End of Oak Street ultimately found itself struggling at the box office, failing to put up a proper fight against fellow new releases PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie and The Brink of War in its opening weekend to finish in third place. By the end of its run, the sci-fi thriller grossed just under $122 million against its production budget, estimated to be between $80–92 million, with some reports indicating it would ultimately cost Warner Bros. a $25–40 million loss. With it now set for a November 13 streaming premiere date, it will be interesting to see if The End of Oak Street can continue its redemptive run on HBO Max. Since making its digital premiere on September 15, Abrams' sci-fi thriller has sat high on multiple platforms' Top 10, including holding the No. 1 spot on Amazon VOD for three weeks straight. Additionally, with the only other major new movie coming to HBO Max this month being the Oscar-buzzy Tony biopic, blockbuster-loving audiences are sure to tune in for Oak Street's debut.
