Jimmy Kimmel on Trump’s approval rating: ‘Somewhere between ebola and Ed Sheeran’

Late-night hosts ridiculed Donald Trump’s disastrous approval rating and his latest rambling speech at the UN.Jimmy KimmelOn Jimmy Kimmel Live! the host spoke about Trump’s new all-time low approval rating which is “somewhere between Ebola and Ed Sheeran” at just 29%.“If that number goes any lower, he’s gonna have to leave Melania for it,” he joked.This week has seen the president banning CNN and MS Now from press briefings leading to other stations suspending coverage in protest.The lack of coverage has made him “even crazier than he already is” as there is “nothing he loves more” than being on TV.His “dumb actions” have now meant that the only camera in the White House is a “ring camera that Melania has mounted on her bedroom door to keep him out of it”.The week also saw him meet with new UK prime minister Andy Burnham who was “visibly uncomfortable” as Trump bragged about his “very petty new attack on freedom of the press”.But Trump’s minions have been trying to defend his actions, from JD Vance to rightwing TV pundits. Kimmel said that it’s “increasingly difficult for these hand puppets of Trump to explain the unexplainable”.In response to the show of media solidarity that has led to Trump being removed from TV screens, he has started a “state-run media network” called Trump TV on YouTube.It started with just 8,000 viewers, which Kimmel joked that Trump will say means “bigger ratings than the final episode of Friends”.The quality is also “spotty and weak just like the president”.Kimmel also called Trumps’s UN speech “a rough, threatening, ugly ramble” that saw him brag about renaming artificial intelligence “super intelligence”.The host said that “his legacy will be renaming things that did not need to be renamed”.Seth MeyersOn Late Night, Seth Meyers spoke about Trump’s ribbon-cutting event at the White House this week, which had no audio as there was no press pool coverage thanks to his ban.“You really need to learn how to project,” Meyers said as advice to the president.Meyers said that even though we couldn’t hear what was being said, he was “either bragging or lying” and that we should “use the media as a baby monitor” when trying to check his emotional state.Meyers also spoke about Trump’s embrace of AI, showing a picture that the president posted of himself as the pope. “We shouldn’t be building datacenters, we should be building assisted living facilities,” he said.This week also saw Trump breaking with convention by endorsing Irish unification.“When isn’t he breaking with decades of US precedent?” the host asked.
