Jimmy Fallon Seemingly Lifts South Park’s Fishsticks” Joke About Stealing Jokes

Jimmy Fallon seems to have lifted a famous South Park joke about how “fish sticks” sounds a lot like “fish dicks,” which is funny in a meta sort of way, because the original “Fishsticks” episode was about Cartman trying to steal that joke. Today, 2009’s “Fishsticks” is more fondly remembered for its B-plot, in which Kanye West can’t get the joke, even though he keeps calling himself a “genius.” It aged really well. But the main story follows Jimmy writing the quip and Cartman’s attempts to take credit. According to “Fishsticks” co-writer Bill Hader, the team came up with the pun while outdoors watching salmon spawn, and Trey Parker literally googled to make sure that “No one’s made that joke.” It’s so closely associated with South Park, it’s been covered by The New Yorker.
