Jim Harbaugh on Mike McDaniel: We'll look at everything, offense needs to be addressed

Published October 18, 2026 08:48 PM The Chargers failed to score a touchdown in Sunday’s 22-6 loss to the Chiefs and they head into their bye week under increased speculation about whether offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel will still be on the staff when they return in Week 8. PFT reported “growing buzz” on Sunday that the Chargers will be parting ways with McDaniel after the team fell to 0-6 since putting him in charge of the offense. The Chargers have scored just 84 points in those six losses, which is a far cry from what many expected when McDaniel was hired to work with quarterback Justin Herbert in the offseason. Herbert threw his eighth interception on Sunday and has thrown at least one in each of the futile offensive performances. After Sunday’s loss, head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked if McDaniel will be calling the plays when the team returns against the Rams in two weeks. “We’re going to look at everything. . . . I feel bad for our players, our team, our coaches, our fans. And (the offense) needs to be addressed,” Harbaugh said, via Noah Furtado of TheAthletic.com.If the Chargers do make a move with McDaniel, former Jets head coach and current pass game specialist Adam Gase is expected to take over the offensive reins.
