JetBlue will offer free upgrades into its new BlueFirst domestic first class cabin to every level of Mosaic elite member—and even to Premier credit card customers who don’t have status. One companion can come along, too. But the airline’s 2027 TrueBlue changes also cut several rewards for less frequent customers. The biggest gains go to higher-tier elites, especially those who carry the airline’s premium credit card. Most changes begin February 1, 2027. Free upgrades start with BlueFirst’s debut, currently scheduled for December 8 between Boston and Fort Lauderdale. The first class upgrades and certificate rebranding were announced last week – what’s new today are the rules and the broader overhaul of the loyalty program. Who Gets Free First Class Upgrades Under JetBlue’s new upgrade rules, eligible passengers join the list automatically at check-in. Upgrades begin clearing just 60 minutes before departure. That’s not even close to competitive with other programs, and these are small first class cabins Main, Main Flex, EvenMore and EvenMore Flex qualify, including eligible TrueBlue award tickets and Cash + Points bookings. Main Base and EvenMore Base are ineligible. Priority order is: Mosaic 4, Mosaic 3, Mosaic 2, Mosaic 1, then Premier cardholders without status. Within each group, the tiebreakers are paying the base fare with any JetBlue credit card, purchasing EvenMore, and then current-year tiles. Premier cardholders without status, including authorized users, must pay the base fare with their Premier card. Simply being a cardmember isn’t enough. United elites (and elites of other partner airlines) are ineligible. The card payment tiebreaker comes before EvenMore and annual tiles. Within the same Mosaic tier, paying with a JetBlue card can put you ahead of someone who’s spent more. Reservations with three or more travelers aren’t eligible. You have to split the eligible member and one companion onto a separate reservation before check-in. JetBlue warns that passengers left without the Mosaic member lose access to that member’s perks. Two available seats let you upgrade together. With only one, you can take it, give it to your companion, or stay together in back. The upgrade includes the seat and onboard service, but no increase in checked baggage allowance since you’re only clearing at the gate. JetBlue Vacations bookings qualify for Mosaics on eligible fares, but not through cardholder eligibility alone. And these are BlueFirst upgrades, not complimentary Mint upgrades. Mint Certificates Get A Broader Use—And Become Available To Mosaic 2 Move to Mint becomes Premium Upgrade Certificates, usable for either Mint or BlueFirst. Mosaic 3 continues to receive 4 certificates. Mosaic 4 receives 4 more, for 8 total, plus 2 for every additional 100 tiles beyond 250. Starting February 1, Mosaic 2 can choose one certificate as a milestone reward. Mosaic 3 and 4 can select an extra one, too. One certificate doesn’t necessarily buy one upgrade since pricing varies by flight. JetBlue displays the certificate requirement during booking. Base fares don’t qualify, while eligible points bookings do. New Mosaic Choices You choose one reward at each milestone. You can select the same type again at a later milestone where it’s offered. Mosaic level Standard choices Additional Premier card choices 1: 50 tiles 10,000 points; 10 current-year tiles; 10 next-year tiles; or one BlueHouse pass Gift 10 tiles 2: 100 tiles 10,000 points; 10 current-year tiles; 10 next-year tiles; one BlueHouse pass; or one upgrade certificate Gift Mosaic 1 3: 150 tiles 20,000 points; 20 current-year tiles; 20 next-year tiles; one BlueHouse pass; or one upgrade certificate Gift Mosaic 2; or up to $500 companion credit 4: 250 tiles 30,000 points; 30 next-year tiles; one BlueHouse pass; one upgrade certificate; gift Mosaic 3; or gift one year of BlueHouse Up to $1,500 companion credit The advertised 70,000 points means choosing points at all four Mosaic levels: 10,000 + 10,000 + 20,000 + 30,000. You’d give up the alternative selections along the way. Current-year bonus tiles help you move up now. A head start puts tiles into the following qualification year. You must choose within 60 days or lose the selection. Selections earned through January 31, 2027 are exempt from this new window. I’ve criticized the breakage built into making customers select benefits. The Premier Card Gets More Valuable If You Reach Mosaic 3 Or 4 Premier cardholders with Mosaic 3 or 4 will earn 5 points per dollar at restaurants and grocery stores, on up to $50,000 in combined annual purchases. That’s the normal 2 points plus 3 extra, or as many as 150,000 additional points a year. The companion credit choices are separate: up to $500 at Mosaic 3 and $1,500 at Mosaic 4, for primary cardholders. These reimburse an eligible companion’s base fare, not taxes, fees or extras. At Mosaic 4, choosing the companion credit instead of 30,000 points gives up those points for as much as $1,500. Fully used, that’s 5 cents per point forgone. At Mosaic 3, the maximum $500 replaces 20,000 points—2.5 cents apiece. I covered the $499 card’s improvements in April, including its 25-tile annual bonus, 15% award rebate and companion credits earned through spending. These new milestone selections shouldn’t be confused with those existing spending benefits. Less Frequent Customers Lose Several Benefits JetBlue’s changes before reaching Mosaic are not so good. The 5,000-point choice becomes 1,000 points at each of 10, 20, 30 and 40 tiles. Use all four selections and you get 4,000 points, less than the old single choice. Early boarding, priority security and the alcoholic drink benefit become single use passes for the next eligible flight. The double points JetBlue Vacations choice disappears. A new 2-tile choice at each milestone can reduce the tiles you otherwise need to earn for Mosaic 1 from 50 to 42. That requires using all four selections on tiles. At Mosaic 1, the points choice falls from 15,000 to 10,000, and the current-year tile bonus drops from 20 to 10. Repeat selections at higher milestones improve the total available to people who keep going. Mint Suite Priority, the $99 credit for select JetBlue cards, FoundersCard membership and IHG status go away. (They can still be selected and used through January 31.) The pet fee waiver becomes automatic at Mosaic 2, rather than a selectable perk available starting at Mosaic 1. This follows the 2026 cuts to entry-level checked bags, companion extra legroom access and free drinks. As I reported in August, the A320 layout adds 12 BlueFirst seats while cutting the forward EvenMore cabin from 30 seats to 18. First class gives Mosaics a better seat to hope for, while there are fewer EvenMore seats to fall back on. And JetBlue’s new fare restrictions give elites another reason to spend more: buying EvenMore Base gets you extra legroom but takes you out of the first class upgrade pool. The relevant comparison is the price of eligible EvenMore against buying BlueFirst outright. Paying more just to join a list that clears an hour before departure can get expensive.
