The Social Reckoning star chose the perfect time to wear this viral timepiece.Photo by Yaro Roland/Getty Images; watch courtesy Louis VuittonAt the Paris premiere of The Social Reckoning last week, Jeremy Allen White wore one of the hottest new watches in the world. Over the past few years, the Louis Vuitton Monterey has quickly evolved from forgotten relic to social-media sensation to resurgent grail consecrated in the luxury house’s main catalog. Now, it’s reaching even higher heights on JAW’s wrist.LV originally released the Monterrey in 1988. Designed by the Italian architect Gae Aulenti, the model represented the brand’s first-ever foray into watches. That experiment was short-lived, however, and the piece quickly became an overlooked footnote in horological history. Back in 2023, however, the watch’s fortunes changed when the dealer Mike Nouveau filmed a viral TikTok of collector Phil Toledano attempting to buy the watch off a stranger’s wrist. From there, prices on vintage Montereys went through the roof—especially once Tyler, the Creator got his hands on one later that summer. In 2025, when Louis finally announced a modern version of the watch, Nouveau recreated the clip with Jean Arnault, the house’s director of watches. In Paris, White sported the 2025 rerelease, which was limited to just 188 pieces and rendered in yellow gold. The actor’s timing was especially good, because Louis Vuitton just announced the follow-up to the 2025 release. While JAW’s limited-edition, yellow-gold version paid tribute to the luxe ’80s-era Monterey I, the most recent releases hail back to the less expensive Monterey II, which featured a sharp ceramic case. The two new versions also come in ceramic: one in black with a striking white dial, the other doused entirely in the green shade from the OG’s case. The yellow hands on that latter version make it the clear standout for me.The Monterey fits in nicely with the story JAW has been telling on his wrist since ascending to A-list status a few years ago. White isn’t the sort of guy concerned about chewing up attention with every chronograph and tourbillon he can get his hands on. His watches are more like the bass player in a band, providing steady backing rhythms to the rest of his outfits. He tends to find pieces that operate more as jewelry-like accessories, such as the Bulgari Bulgari watch, Tiffany & Co. cocktail watches, and Louis Vuitton’s flagship Tambour. Given his clear affinity for the Tambour, we wouldn’t be surp rised to see him complete the trifecta in the upcoming weeks.Sign up for Show Notes to get news on the latest runway shows, parties, and insider events on the international fashion circuit.Cam Wolf is GQ’s Watch Editor.
