Jennifer Lopez has returned to the streaming charts as part of a major family adventure franchise. The pop singer has a long career as an actor and producer, with important titles including Monster-in-Law, Hustlers, Second Act, and Kiss of the Spider Woman. Her filmography also includes some major recent streaming hits, such as Office Romance and Atlas, both on Netflix. Her own star-studded musical short film This Is Me...Now: A Love Story was also a huge hit on Prime Video. Now, one of Lopez's theatrical ventures is seeing a resurgence with its arrival on Netflix, with its prequels also getting attention. Why The Ice Age Franchise Is Taking Over Netflix's Global Streaming Charts All five main Ice Age movies just dropped on Netflix, with certain installments quickly appearing in the Top 10 in the U.S. and worldwide. Lopez joined the franchise in its fourth installment, 2012's Ice Age: Continental Drift, as saber-tooth tiger Shira. This movie continued the Ice Age series' success, grossing $877.2 million worldwide on a budget of $95 million. This led to another sequel, which Lopez returned for. At the time of writing, 2016's Ice Age: Collision Course is the no. 6 movie in the entire world on Netflix's streaming charts, per FlixPatrol. Despite a Rotten Tomatoes score of 18%, the fifth installment still grossed a strong $408.6 million on a budget of $105 million (per Box Office Mojo). Meanwhile, the original Ice Age is the no. 8 movie on Netflix's charts for the U.S., while the third movie, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, is at no. 3. It makes sense that an entire series of movies releasing on a streaming platform, particularly Netflix, would result in people rewatching them altogether. While arguably going on for too long, the Ice Age franchise retains its popularity and charm, with a fun recurring cast also including Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Keke Palmer, and Wanda Sykes. Ice Age's 2026 Streaming Success Is Great News For Its Upcoming Sequel It has now been 10 years since the last Ice Age movie (not counting the 2022 Disney+ spinoff The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild), the longest the franchise has gone without a theatrical release. With a dramatically declining critical reception, Ice Age is counting on audience popularity to make its next chapter a success. This streaming revival shows that the fanbase has not disappeared. This is good news for the new installment slated for release in 2027, Ice Age: Boiling Point. As a continuation of a well-liked IP and a family-friendly feature, the next Ice Age will likely be another box office success story. This will be the first theatrically released Ice Age movie produced by Disney, following the company's acquisition of 20th Century Studios and closure of Blue Sky Studios. With the main cast returning, Ice Age: Boiling Point will see the found family of prehistoric mammals surviving another natural disaster together. If the trend of the last few movies holds, it will be another critical disaster — but fans will turn up to see it nonetheless, as they did 10 years ago for Ice Age: Collision Course. All five main Ice Age movies are now streaming on Netflix. Ice Age: Boiling Point will release theatrically on February 5, 2027.
