2 min readJennifer Lawrence will be swept away by The Flood. The Die My Love actress is the first name attached to Zach Cregger’s upcoming sci-fi thriller, according to Variety, which is produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. Plot details are still under wrap—The Flood is set for a release in August 2028—but Cregger told Esquire this summer that he pitched Spielberg a story about the scariest thing that could happen to you in space. The director said he was watching Ad Astra with Brad Pitt when his wife stated that “there’s nothing scarier than being trapped in space.” Cregger took the innocuous comment as a challenge. “Really?” he asked her. “What would be the scariest thing?” Cregger came up with a Spielberg-approved answer, but it seems audiences will need to wait until 2028 to find out. Hopefully, it’s even scarier than Ad Astra’s killer space baboon.Meanwhile, Cregger is set to follow his adrenaline-fueled take on Resident Evil with a Weapons prequel. The film, which he may or may not direct himself, details the origins of the Oscar-winning villain Aunt Gladys (played by Amy Madigan). Production on The Flood isn’t set to begin until early 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter.Ethan Miller//Getty ImagesZach Cregger’s The Flood is set for release in August 2028.Commenting on Lawrence’s casting, Cregger told Variety, “Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.”Lawrence has a busy slate ahead of her as well. Following a return to The Hunger Games franchise in this November’s The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the actress is also starring in Martin Scorsese’s undated gothic horror film What Happens at Night alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Mads Mikkelsen.
