‘Jekyll & Hyde’ yob who slashed woman’s neck with broken bottle in row avoids jail AGAIN over further savage attacks

A “Jekyll & Hyde” thug has walked free from court after assaulting two strangers in one night just 18 months after slashing the neck of a woman with a broken bottle. This time, she was sentenced for assaulting a bystander at a boozer and a bus driver during a boozed-up tirade on February 23. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The attacks happened after Summer had an argument with her then-boyfriend in The Veteran, a pub in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. As she was leaving the premises, she pulled stranger Nicola Gawn, who had tried to act as a peacemaker, by her hair onto a table. The victim hit her head and suffered a cut lip. Summer, from Poole, Dorset, then caught a bus back to her accommodation. But Summer contonued her assaults and bit bus driver Dean Rowledge on the forearm – leaving teeth marks. The court heard how she reacted with rage when the driver told her that he could not wait at the stop for her while she looked for a toilet. Credit: BNPS Miss Lockyer was left with a gaping wound that required a number of stitches Credit: BNPS Prosecuting, Jade Philippou said: “The defendant threatened to urinate on the seats and tried to distract the driver while driving. “As the driver became concerned for the safety of the journey he took the opportunity to remove her luggage from the bus. “She bites him on the victim’s right forearm with teeth marks visible.” The court heard that Summer had seven previous convictions for violent crimes, including racially aggravated assault, between 2013 and 2025. Mitigating, Bridget O’Hagan said her client was “disgusted and appalled” at her own behaviour, describing her as a completely different person when sober. She said she had been in a difficult relationship with her ex-partner who was a damaging influence on her. “It’s a Jekyll and Hyde situation. When she is sober she is incredibly polite, accommodating and caring,” Ms O’Hagan said. “But when she is drinking – what a difference. It’s clear she is a risk to the public when out and about drinking. “She knows now that if she lives with that person (her ex) it is toxic. “If you were minded to give her that opportunity she would take it with both hands and not let you down.” Last year, Judge Stephen Climie spared Summer an immediate custodial sentence as he felt she could be “rehabilitated”. Judge Maylin criticised the defendant for her crimes, telling her that she should be “ashamed” of herself. She added: “You have committed horrendous offences, especially against Mr Rowledge who is a bus driver doing his public duty. “To have physically assaulted him by biting him – you should be ashamed. “Ms Gawn, as a fellow woman, probably felt she wanted to make sure you were all right, but you pulled her hair and pulled her over a table. “I appreciate battling addictions, and I consider alcohol to be an addiction, is not an easy task.” Summer, who pleaded guilty to the assaults, once again walked into the dock at the court wheeling a suitcase – expecting that since she was in direct breach of a suspended sentence order she would be locked up. But she earned an unexpected second reprieve after the judge said she would not activate the suspended sentence order as she had been convinced by her defence lawyer. Instead, Judge Maylin issued another six month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and added 10 rehabilitation days so Summer could continue to get treatment for alcohol addiction.
