Jeff Koons and Lexon create colourful evolution of Balloon Dog lamp and speaker

Promotion: artist Jeff Koons has turned his iconic Balloon Dog sculpture into vibrantly coloured functional objects as part of a limited-edition collaboration with French design brand Lexon. The Chromatic Collection offers a "colourful evolution" of the lamp and speaker he created with Lexon last year, and features the same translucent body as their predecessors. Jeff Koons has created a colour-drenched version of his Balloon Dog lamp and speaker In this updated version, the objects' key hardware is picked out in one of four vivid hues – gold, blue or red, plus platinum for the lamp or white for the speaker. These colours are only available this year as part of the 2026 exclusive release. "We wanted to push the dialogue between art and design even further," explained Lexon CEO Boris Brault. "Adding colour is a way to bring some emotion and joie de vivre to these special objects that live with you every day." Key hardware is picked out in one of four colours The collaboration was born from more than 50,000 hours of research and development. Most was focused on reproducing the distinctive silhouette of Koons' Balloon Dog sculpture, while fitting it with a kilogram worth of lighting and audio technology and maintaining the same dimensions for both the lamp and speaker. "One of the greatest challenges was preserving the instantly recognisable sculptural form while integrating advanced lighting and audio systems into a translucent structure," Lexon said. The technology is left exposed by the translucent body In the case of the Hi-Fi system, this takes the form of 10 built-in speakers with six active drivers and four passive boosters to ensure both high and low frequencies are reproduced with accuracy. The speaker also has two built-in microphones for making calls or talking to voice assistants. For the lamp, Lexon figured out a way to fit nearly 400 LEDs into the tiny body of the Balloon Dog, which can toggle between nine different colours and lighting effects, from rainbow and flashing to strobe. The lamp is fitted with nearly 400 colour-changing LEDs Both objects come with an integrated battery, which lasts up to five hours in the case of the lamp and 10 hours in the case of the speaker. All of this technology is left exposed by the objects' translucent polycarbonate bodies – an effect that's only enhanced by the addition of colour. "The introduction of colour added a new layer of complexity – requiring perfect harmony across finishes, tones, and materials to ensure consistency between lamp and speaker," Lexon explained. The audio system is equipped with 10 speakers Each collectable piece is engraved with Jeff Koons' signature under its front paws and verified via a hologram and a certificate of authenticity. "The two objects are an exciting way for Balloon Dog to enter into our daily lives where art, design, and technology come together," Koons said.
