AMAZON chief Jeff Bezos has officially bought a stake in Liverpool Football Club. The Reds put the weeks of rumours to bed as they announced the news via a statement this afternooon. British-Indian millionaire Bhatia, whose father-in-law has a net worth of around £23bn, will also become Liverpool’s vice-chairman. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! The new consortium, which as well as Bezos, has the backing of billionaire Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, will buy a third of the club. Bezos has an estimated net worth of £213BILLION, making him the third-richest person on the planet. And Saverin, who is said to be worth around £25bn, is the wealthiest person in Brazil. Liverpool’s statement read: “The strategic investment supports Liverpool F.C.’s long-term growth ambitions by bringing together experts from across global business, technology, and investment. “The consortium partners will work with FSG and the club’s leadership team to evaluate opportunities that enhance the club’s objectives on and off the pitch. FSG continues to retain majority ownership and operational control of Liverpool F.C. Mike Gordon, FSG President, said: “Liverpool has always been built by thinking beyond one season and making decisions with the club’s long-term interests in mind.
