JD Vance lists Trump's NYC achievements, Mayor Mamdani's response is pure gold

US Vice President JD Vance tried to take a victory lap for the Trump administration’s work in New York City, but Mayor Zohran Mamdani had other plans. New York City’s political back-and-forth got a little more entertaining after Vance claimed the Trump administration was working hard for the welfare of the residents. Meanwhile, Mayor Mamdani skipped the statistics and responded with a GIF of a man holding open a subway door; a cheeky retort that quickly took off on X.Vance had shared a post titled ‘The Trump Admin Delivers for New York’, accompanied by a detailed list of what the administration described as its achievements across public safety, tax relief and investments. He also declared that he had ‘New York City’s Back’.Under the ‘Safer Communities’ section, the post claimed that New York City and New York State had recorded their lowest crime figures ever. It also cited efforts to curb illegal immigration and the removal of more than five of the administration’s ‘worst of the worst’ criminal illegal aliens. The post then moved to economic gains, claiming that 337,000 jobs had been protected, $32 billion in wages preserved and the average tax refund had reached $3,843. It also touted a fourfold increase in the SALT deduction cap. There was more under ‘Historic Investments’, with the administration claiming over $472 billion in investments, including $250 billion from Micron and $50 billion from Anthropic. But the impressive-looking list did not quite get the reception Vance may have hoped for. Several X users questioned the Vice President’s attempt to claim credit for developments in New York, with some pointing to Mamdani’s work as mayor. And then came Mamdani’s response. Rather than issue a lengthy rebuttal, the mayor posted a GIF showing a man holding open an automatic subway door as passengers made their way inside. It also gave social media users plenty to laugh about, with the post racking up millions of views within hours.Mamdani is no stranger to using social media to communicate with New Yorkers. From direct-to-camera videos addressing civic issues to sharing everyday moments around the city, he has built a distinctly online presence. He was also spotted handing out water to runners during the New York City Marathon, another moment that found its way onto social media. This time, though, one GIF was enough to get his point across.- Ends
