New Orleans jazz-funk drummer Stanton Moore played Queens of the Stone Age’s “The Way You Used to Do” as part of Drumeo’s “For the First Time” series. The “For the First Time” series is known for putting drummers in the hot seat, playing them a song (minus the drum track) that they’ve never heard before and asking to come up with and perform a drum arrangement on the spot. Get Queens of the Stone Age Tickets Here Moore’s approach to “The Way You Used to Do” is a high energy and high power swinging approach, picking up on the natural swing and groove Josh Homme packs into his writing. The tempo he chooses makes the track feel feel less loose and dirty than a typical Queens of the Stone Age track, instead leaning into an almost Big Band jazz level of cooking. Moore’s response to hearing the original was bright and exuberant, listening to Jon Theodore’s much more minimal and modern drum beat driven by Mark Ronson’s production. While Moore is known for his jazz-funk style, he does have experience in the rock and metal world, as he has performed with Tom Morello and done session work for Corrosion of Conformity. Queens of the Stone Age will embark on a Spring 2027 US tour in support of their new album Perfecth which Consequence named one of the best albums of October 2026. Get tickets here.
