A member of Jay-Z’s touring entourage was overheard telling a colleague: “We need to start by 8pm as we have been warned about the very strict 10.30pm curfew here.” Despite this, Jay-Z didn’t appear until 8.30pm — and risked the wrath of bosses by over-running by six minutes before the main lights of the venue were slammed on. Jay did close his show on Saturday on time, though, which will hopefully appease council bosses. But a source said: “Jay and his team were warned that, unlike in other venues, lateness just wouldn’t cut it. A source told me: “The area has a drone ban, so the only way to do it was by helicopter. It would have cost at least £20,000 to secure the footage.” Bizarre was lucky enough to be invited to watch the show from special seating on the stage alongside a host of famous faces. The four-day event in Larmer Tree Gardens, Wilts, always delivers a cutting-edge line-up full of up and coming talent as well as heavyweight headliners – this year including the likes of Geese, Cmat and Mac DeMarco. But Saturday night was all about national treasure Jarvis Cocker and his Sheffield band, who finally wrapped up their You Deserve More world tour at the festival, playing bangers such as Common People, Spike Island and Babies alongside lesser-known We Are The Boyz and Death II, which hadn’t been performed live in decades. It’s a festival which champions the coolest global acts you may not have heard of, and other highlights included a bonkers set by LA-based dance duo Debasement, indie-punk Londoners Fat Dog presiding over mosh pit-mayhem, US garage rock star TY Segall and haunting country ballads from Native American Ken Pomeroy. The tour marks the first time the Bon Jovi frontman has taken to the stage since undergoing surgery on his vocal cords back in 2022 – and his emotion-filled set showed just how much it means to him.
