The appeal raised Rs 1.58 lakh in just 24 hours before details about the fundraiser began raising concerns among donors.X user Jay Singh Rathore, who introduced himself as a 16-year-old boy, shared a post claiming that his younger sister needed urgent eye surgery and was at risk of losing her eyesight.He also shared an image of an Aadhaar card along with payment details and appealed to people to contribute towards her treatment.Within 24 hours, he claimed to have raised enough money, sharing a screenshot showing that Rs 1,58,282 had been collected. He then said he had deleted all his posts because he had received sufficient donations and did not want people to send any more money. Please be aware and SHARE to prevent people from becoming victims of this deception." The development prompted several people who had donated to the fundraiser to confront the teenager during X Spaces. During one such interaction, he admitted that the money he had raised was actually for his father, who he said had been undergoing treatment for the past two years."My father never asked me to beg for money, this was my own decision. Those who had donated sought answers about why the appeal had presented the money as being needed for his sister's eye surgery when he later said the funds were actually for his father's treatment.The episode also left the donors facing uncertainty over the money they had sent.
