Can Shreyas Iyer’s side deliver without Jasprit Bumrah?Bumrah, who played a key role in India’s successful Asian Games campaign, is not part of the squad for the five-match series. His absence puts greater responsibility on a pace attack that has plenty of promise but considerably less international experience.Catch all the action of the India vs West Indies T20I series on the Star Sports network and the JioHotstar app and website in India. The timing is interesting too. West Indies arrive with renewed confidence after producing a stunning performance in the final ODI in New Chandigarh. India had already wrapped up the ODI series before the visitors bounced back, meaning the T20I series gives both teams a fresh start. India, though, will enter the contest with plenty of confidence after retaining their Asian Games T20 title. More importantly, the series provides an opportunity to test the depth of a side that is looking beyond its established stars.CAN INDIA’S YOUNG PACERS DELIVER?Without Bumrah, India’s pace attack suddenly looks much younger. Arshdeep Singh is the most experienced member of the group, while Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav bring plenty of intrigue but are still developing at international level. Nitish Kumar Reddy also gives India another seam-bowling option. Mayank’s return will be one of the biggest talking points. The express pacer has had to battle repeated injury setbacks, but his pace remains an obvious X-factor whenever he takes the field. Prince, meanwhile, has taken an interesting route into the India set-up after initially being a net bowler.India bowling coach Morne Morkel believes opportunities such as this are important for building the team’s next generation.“Yes, it will be great for Indian cricket if we keep on growing that pool, keep on giving guys that experience, the taste of what it is to play in an Indian shirt. And also a nice opportunity for guys who were out of the loop for a while to come back. Mayank Yadav, he's back from injury. So, yeah, I look forward to seeing how he goes when he gets an opportunity,” Morkel said in the pre-series press conference. On Mayank and Prince, Morkel added: “Yeah, I mean, if you look at Mayank, immediately that comes to mind is his pace as X-factor. I think for me, Prince, where he was a net bowler a couple of years ago, he's now playing for India. That resilience, you know, the hard work that he's put into his game to reach the international stage is admirable.”“So for me, that shows that these guys are hardworking players. You know, Mayank had a couple of setbacks with injury, back-to-back setbacks with that. For a young player to get through that and then again, you know, find themselves in a situation to play for India just shows attitude.”The challenge will now be to turn that potential into consistency, particularly in the pressure phases of a T20I. Bumrah’s ability to control the game at the death has been one of India’s biggest strengths, and his absence means others will have to take on that responsibility.ASIAN GAMES STARS GIVE INDIA BATTING CONFIDENCEIf India have a potential concern with their pace attack, their batting arrives in Lucknow in excellent spirits.Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma were among the standout performers as India retained the Asian Games T20 title, beating Pakistan in the final. Abhishek’s aggressive approach at the top provided India with momentum, while Tilak played an important role in adding stability and power through the middle.Ishan Kishan also comes into the series with confidence after contributing significantly during India’s Asian Games campaign. Kishan was particularly impressive in the semi-final against Sri Lanka, while Sanju Samson will be looking to regain his form after struggling at the Asian Games. The competition for places is therefore intense. Abhishek, Samson and Kishan are all capable of taking apart quality bowling attacks, while Tilak has established himself as a key middle-order option. India also have Shivam Dube and other all-rounders who can add depth to the batting. For Iyer, the challenge will be getting the combination right while maintaining the aggressive approach that has become central to India’s T20 game. The focus will also be on 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who will be eager to make an impact and grow in stature if he gets his opportunity.WEST INDIES LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACKWest Indies will not be short of belief. They may have lost the ODI series, but their stunning performance in the final match changed the mood around the tour. Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162 inspired the visitors to their highest successful ODI chase, giving them a timely confidence boost before the switch to T20Is.The visitors have also added Amir Jangoo as cover for Jewel Andrew, who sustained a finger injury during the third ODI. Jangoo has already enjoyed an outstanding ODI series against India, making his inclusion another interesting subplot for the T20I campaign.West Indies have several players capable of making life difficult for India. Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford bring plenty of power to the middle order, while Romario Shepherd remains a dangerous all-round option. Kamil Pooran, meanwhile, has earned his first T20I call-up after making a strong impression in the Caribbean Premier League.Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie can also pose questions with their spin in the middle overs, while Shamar Joseph offers pace and aggression. That combination of experience, power and emerging talent gives West Indies enough weapons to test India’s inexperienced pace attack. For India, however, the opening T20I is about more than simply starting the series with a win. It is a chance to see whether their young bowlers can step up without Bumrah and whether their confident Asian Games batting unit can continue its momentum. The answer could set the tone for a series that offers India another opportunity to strengthen their bench and build towards the next phase of their T20I journey.LUCKNOW PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONSThe pitch in Lucknow hasn’t been an absolute belter in T20Is. In six matches, the average first-innings score is 141, with teams batting first winning five times. Hence, batting first could be the way forward, as chasing a target may not be easy at this venue.Conditions are expected to be clear on Tuesday, with no chance of rain. Temperatures will be around 28 degrees Celsius, with a full match on the cards.INDIA VS WEST INDIES HEAD-TO-HEADOverallMatches - 31 | India - 20 | West Indies - 10 | N/R - 1In IndiaMatches - 11 | India - 2 | West Indies - 2 | N/R - 0INDIA VS WEST INDIES PREDICTED XISIndia: Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (WK), Shreyas Iyer (C), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Mayank YadavWest Indies: Shai Hope (capt, wk), Kamil Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Shamar Springer, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph, Matthew Forde- Ends
