Jason Statham's R-Rated Action Thriller Sequel Officially Looks Like 2027's First Great Movie

The Beekeeper 2 is sending Jason Statham’s Adam Clay after people who should know better than to fight him. In the first film, scammers steal his landlady’s savings, and his retaliation takes him from burning down a call center to breaking into a presidential estate. Jeremy Irons explains why even the CIA should fear him, while Statham talks about protecting the hive without treating the beekeeping references as jokes. By the end, Irons hardly needs to explain himself. Clay has supplied the evidence. There’s still plenty to learn about the organization that trained Jason Statham's Beekeeper character, though. The trailer sends other Beekeepers after Clay, so Irons’ warnings now apply to the people hunting him too. Watching Clay pull a minigun from a car is funny until remembering what he managed with a knife in the first film. If his pursuers are that capable, he has reason to keep his distance. They won’t need to lose a roomful of guards before realizing whom they’ve picked a fight with. Taking over from David Ayer is Timo Tjahjanto, whose The Night Comes for Us ends with two fighters cutting each other apart long after either should be able to stand. Putting Clay through a fight like that would be a change from watching him dispatch another security team. The Beekeeper 2 arrives January 15, 2027, with Jason Statham Stole My Bike following later that year. After watching Clay walk away from the first movie's carnage, there’s reason to be curious about how much harder Tjahjanto will make his escape. The Beekeeper 2 Already Looks Fantastic The trailer’s flamethrower kill shows what Tjahjanto can bring to The Beekeeper 2. Clay shoves the weapon into his attacker’s mouth and burns his head, then adds, “Next time, don’t be so hotheaded.” It’s a horrible death followed by an equally terrible joke, and Statham barely reacting to either makes it funny. Tjahjanto’s taste for gore also gives him something gruesome to shrug off before moving on to the next fight. Clay’s new Dodge Super Bee comes with a minigun hidden in the passenger seat, which Irons introduces as its “stinger.” It’s excessive even for Clay, but watching Statham pull heavy artillery out of a muscle car makes it easy to get excited about the sequel. After seeing how much damage he could do with a knife, it’s hard not to want to see him use it. Irons’ warning that the Beekeepers want control of the government also gives Clay opponents worth bringing the gun out for. These people know how he fights because they trained him. The first installment let Clay tear through men who thought they could handle him. Someone who can counter his punches and keep fighting after taking a few would give Statham a more exciting fight, especially with Tjahjanto directing. 2027 Will Be Another Great Year For Jason Statham Jay Maidment /© MGM /Courtesy Everett Collection Statham will follow The Beekeeper 2’s January 15 release by playing himself in Jason Statham Stole My Bike on August 6. David Leitch, who directed him in Hobbs & Shaw, is handling the action comedy. Plot details remain under wraps, but playing himself gives Statham a chance to make fun of his own action movies, including the assumption that he can beat up everyone else onscreen. Spy already showed how funny Statham can be when his character isn’t nearly as capable as he thinks. Rick Ford claims to have reattached his own arm, but can’t follow someone without getting spotted and needs Susan Cooper to save him. Statham never lets Ford realize how ridiculous he sounds. It would be fun to see him play himself with Ford’s confidence, especially if he turns out to need just as much help. Viva La Madness could also arrive in 2027, having finished filming, though it has no confirmed release date. It reunites Statham with Guy Ritchie, who cast him as street hustler Bacon in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and boxing promoter Turkish in Snatch. Vinnie Jones would also join them, having played Big Chris in Lock, Stock and Bullet-Tooth Tony in Snatch. Alongside The Beekeeper 2 and Jason Statham Stole My Bike, that could mean three Statham films in 2027, starting with Clay burning a man’s head in January.
