Jason David Frank's Final Power Rangers Movie Gets Official Reaction From Pink Ranger's Amy Jo Johnson

Power Rangers actor Jason David Frank’s final movie has been released, and his Mighty Morphin Power Rangers costar Amy Jo Johnson has given her reaction to it. In November 2022, Frank died at the age of 49, with the actor best known for playing Tommy Oliver in the Power Rangers franchise. In the final years of his life, Frank worked on the Power Rangers-influenced movie Legend of the White Dragon, which sees him starring as the title protagonist. After multiple delays, the movie was finally released in theaters this past weekend opposite The Dog Stars and Coyote vs. Acme, among others. On Instagram, Johnson posted a picture of herself next to a Legend of the White Dragon poster at a movie theater. The actor, who played Kimberly Hart, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ first Pink Ranger, wrote in the post’s caption that Frank “shines” in the movie, and that his “heart is on his sleeves” in it. She then congratulated everyone “involved” who worked with her late costar and real-life friend on Legend of the White Dragon, describing it as “a beautiful way for all of us to celebrate his life and his talent.” Legend of the White Dragon follows Frank’s Erik Reed, who was once the superhero White Dragon, but went into hiding three years before the movie’s main events. Now back to clear his name and reunite with his wife and daughter, Erik finds himself a target for revenge by main antagonist Dragon Prime, played by co-director Aaron Schoenke. Legend of the White Dragon entered production in May 2021 after its second Kickstarter campaign surpassed its $500,000 goal. Although fellow Power Rangers actors like Jason Faunt (Time Force), Cerina Vincent (Lost Galaxy), and Ciara Hanna (Megaforce and Super Megaforce) appear in Frank’s final movie, Legend of the White Dragon takes place in a separate universe from the Power Rangers franchise. The movie’s cast also includes the late Michael Madsen, Rachele Brooke Smith, Andrew Bachelor, David Ramsey, and Mark Dacascos, among others. Schoenke directed Legend of the White Dragon with his father, Sean Schoenke, as well as wrote the script with Alex Kellerman. While not one of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ original five protagonists, like Johnson’s Hart was, Frank’s Tommy debuted in the season 1 episode “Green with Evil, Part I: Out of Control,” where he joined the team after briefly being brainwashed by Rita Repulsa. Tommy and Kimberly were also love interests before the latter exited the show in “A Different Shade of Pink — Part 3.” Frank and Johnson later reprised their characters alongside each other in 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, then cameoed as Angel Grove citizens in the 2017 Power Rangers reboot movie.
