Jarrod Bowen agrees revised West Ham contract as Hammers risk losing host of key stars ahead of new Championship season

JARROD BOWEN will stay at West Ham in the Championship after agreeing a new deal with the club. The Hammers captain, a target for Everton and Chelsea over the summer, met with Czech owner Daniel Kretinsky in Prague and was convinced to stay at the London Stadium despite relegation. Kretinsky, whose influence has grown following David Sullivan’s resignation, was determined to keep his skipper at the club. Bowen said: “The main motivation is staying and bringing this club back into the Premier League where we belong. “It hurt everyone and it should hurt everyone, it was such a disappointing thing that happened. You can’t change it, it doesn’t last forever. “I flew to Prague in the Czech Republic to meet Daniel and Jiri to go out and speak and the ambition I got from Daniel and Jiri, the direction the club wants to move in it interested me a lot. It didn’t take a lot for me because this club means a lot to me. “I’ve been here six-and-a-half-years and transitioned from a boy from the Championship to a man and captain to the club, which is a huge honour. “I see myself in years to come as a diehard West Ham fan so I always think what would they want as a fan if they got the opportunity to play on the pitch? There is going to be a different pressure on us now and the most important thing is the desire, attitude and a winning mentality. “It is good to be back at Rush Green ready to go. We’re moving in the right direction as a club, there is a lot of thinking time over the summer and a lot of things that go in your head but for me I look in years and years to come, what is going to bring me the most happiness?
