TOKYO – Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi posted on her social media account that she was able to sleep for five hours for the first time in a while during the three-day weekend ending on July 20.The country celebrated a three-day weekend from July 18 to July 20, featuring Marine Day on the last day.“I was able to get five hours of sleep for the first time in a while and tackled the ironing and sewing I’d been putting off all at once,” she said on her social media platform X account on the night of July 20, revealing that she had recharged her batteries during her brief break.The prime minister emphasised her hectic schedule, noting that she is busy with household chores such as laundry. She then pores over documents late at night until early in the morning on weekdays, even after returning to her official residence.“Since taking office, getting zero to three hours of sleep has become the norm,” she posted.She also said that she carefully studied documents such as the Basic Policy on Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform on July 18 and 19.At a press conference on July 21, Yuichiro Tamaki, leader of an opposition party – Democratic Party for the People – voiced criticism.“Resting is part of her job.
