Photo: BCCI KARACHI: Amir Jangoo has earned a place in the West Indies’ T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against India after a prolific ODI campaign, with the wicket-keeper batsman called up as cover for Jewel Andrew. Andrew suffered a finger injury while completing a catch during India’s third ODI against the West Indies on October 3. The youngster held on to dismiss Naman Dhir at cover off Gudakesh Motie in the 36th over but was struck on the finger in the process. He was taken to hospital for an X-ray and further assessment, with scans confirming there was no fracture. Andrew did not immediately return to the field and subsequently did not bat during West Indies’ record successful chase in New Chandigarh. He remains under observation by the team’s medical staff and has not yet been ruled out of the T20I series. Jangoo, meanwhile, enters the T20I setup riding a wave of confidence after an outstanding ODI series against India. The 29-year-old scored an unbeaten 58 in the opening ODI before producing a spectacular 114 in the second match. He then added 67 in the third to finish the series with 239 runs. His tally put him third among the leading run-scorers across both teams, behind India captain Shubman Gill and West Indies skipper Shai Hope. Jangoo has already represented West Indies in seven T20Is since making his international debut in December 2024. He has scored 163 runs in the format at a strike rate of 120.74. His latest call-up gives the Caribbean side another wicketkeeping option while adding a batter in red-hot form to a squad preparing for a demanding five-match series. West Indies will open the T20I campaign against India in Lucknow on Tuesday, with the series then moving to Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
