Among the many recording aliases maintained by the artist best known as Jane Remover, Venturing tends to be the most rock-oriented. Last year saw the release of the project's debut full-length Ghostholding, a guitar-oriented set that reminds me of Mk.gee's work with Justin Bieber or a more lo-fi spin on the 1975 at their most emo. It's loose, swooning, sweetly melodic music that feels retro while keeping one foot in the forward-leaning present, mostly thanks to the way Jane's vocals maintain the elasticity heard in her electronic/hip-hop tracks.Today there's a short new dispatch under the Venturing banner. The Nowhere EP includes three songs: "Songs about leaving," "Drunk Lullaby," and "Downtown." The first of those got a music video Thursday, and now the other two are here to complete the statement. It adds up to another dose of big hooks, big feelings, and retro-futuristic textures that go down pleasingly smooth despite the fuzz.Listen below.Nowhere is out now digitally on deadAir, to be followed by a 7" vinyl release in October. Pre-order the vinyl here.
