Jana Nayagan box office Day 8: Vijay film hits lowest, mints Rs 260 crore globally

Actor-turned-Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's Jana Nayagan has crossed the Rs 260-crore mark at the worldwide box office, even as the film recorded its lowest single-day collection since release on Thursday. The political action drama, which marks Vijay's final film, opened to massive anticipation but has witnessed a steady decline during the weekdays amid mixed-to-negative reviews.According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan earned Rs 3.98 crore (India nett - gross minus taxes) on Day 8 (second Thursday), its weakest daily performance so far. The film was screened across 5,496 shows with an occupancy of 16.9 per cent. The Day 8 earnings were down by nearly 35 per cent less from Wednesday, indicating that the initial buzz around the film has slowed considerably.Despite the drop in domestic collections, the film has now minted around Rs 260 crore worldwide in eight days, making it one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year.A strong start, followed by a sharp weekday declineReleased on July 23, Jana Nayagan opened with an impressive Rs 42.70 crore in India, registering one of the biggest openings of 2026. However, collections dropped by over 50 per cent on Day 2 to Rs 21.15 crore. The first weekend helped the film recover. It earned Rs 28.90 crore on Saturday before peaking at Rs 32 crore on Sunday, aided by strong weekend footfalls. The momentum, however, didn't last. On Monday, collections crashed to Rs 10.65 crore, a 66.7 per cent drop from Sunday.
