Carragher returned to screens on Tuesday evening for CBS Sports to cover the Champions League. The show is known for its jokes at pundits such as Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards. And the retired defender did not escape some ridicule from host Kate Scott. She said: “A busy hot summer can be taxing. Carragher is thought to rake in more than £1million a year from TV punditry work. He also does podcasts and is director of four firms. Carragher’s spokesman told business newspaper City AM: “This is a private tax matter that should have been resolved sooner, and the appropriate steps are being taken today to settle it. “It is understood that the matter will not proceed any further and will be resolved imminently.” HMRC said it could not comment on Carragher’s finances. It added: “We take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts and do everything we can to help those who engage with us to get out of debt, such as offering instalment plans. “We only petition for bankruptcy as a last resort.” Comment now
