James McAvoy’s only “consistent” residuals money comes from his 2017 movie “Split.” The actor explained on Thursday’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast episode that he “very rarely” gets anything worth cashing from his other films. “You get the odd check for a couple hundred quid here,” the Golden Globe nominee noted. “Sometimes you get checks for, like, 25 cents.” James McAvoy “consistently” gets money from his 2017 movie “Split.” ©Universal/Courtesy Everett Collection The actor admitted on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast Thursday that he “very rarely” gets anything from his other projects. Josh Horowitz/YouTube Debunking host Josh Horowitz’s belief that he got “sweet” residuals from “Wanted,” which came out in 2008, McAvoy clarified he doesn’t “get too much money from” that project. As for why “Split” is still raking it in, the “Shameless” alum told listeners, “It was made for $6 million or something like that. I’d say they spent $30 [million] advertising it. Our first weekend, we made $40 [million], so we made profit. Our first residuals check came at the end of the first weekend. “ He called this a “bonkers” situation and credited the movie’s “super smart” director, M. Night Shyamalan. McAvoy, notably, played a character with 24 personalities in “Split” — and, Horowitz recalled during Thursday’s sitdown, there was “real talk” at the time about the role being “recognized” during awards season. The Golden Globe nominee joked about sometimes receiving mere cents. However, McAvoy did not get nominated for any major industry awards and did not find that a “big surprise.” “I got this bar of gold bullion, and I crafted my own and had a ceremony for it,” he joked, before clarifying why he did not “particularly” buy into the chatter that he’d be honored. “I didn’t think it would get welcomed into that sphere much,” McAvoy said. “Some horror performances or scary movie performances are kind of breaking through now, but even then it’s not that many. “For the amount of good work that’s done in that field, I still dont’ see enough representation of that good work,” he continued. “I kind of feel like that with all awards shows anyway of every genre.” He called this “bonkers” and praised “super smart” director M. Chelsea Lauren/Shutterstock Acknowledging that the projects recognized are “generally really good,” McAvoy said he believes there are “20, 40 [or] 50 equally or better out there” — that just aren’t “part of the club.” He doubled down on things being a “wee bit different,” highlighting the viral attention “Obsession” received after its May release. McAvoy praised lead actress Inde Navarrette’s “ability to pivot … from moment to moment,” likening her “unsettling” performance alongside Michael Johnston to him “pulling all those moves” in “Split.” “The psychological right angle she’s capable of in that film is disturbing in itself,” he said. “It’s not just impressive, it’s not just … dexterous acting, it’s also part of what’s scary about her.” This was not a “big surprise” to the “Band of Brothers” alum (pictured above on Sept. 12) despite all the chatter he should be recognized. GC Images McAvoy has been on a press tour all week promoting his “California Schemin'” movie — and spilled the tea on an on-set feud on “Watch What Happens Live” Monday. The “Band of Brothers” alum made headlines for looking at a cast photo and confirming one of the actors in the picture had bullied him. He divulged, “[My co-star] got him and his buddies to just stand pointing at me and laugh at me for, like, three minutes.” Community Guidelines Welcome to the Page Six Community!
