Three of his movies are in the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time at the worldwide box office, including Avatar taking the top spot. But even beyond an untouchable mega-hit like Avatar, the director has helmed what are now sci-fi and action classics, such as The Abyss and beloved sequel films, Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He directed a Billie Eilish concert documentary this year, and is still at work on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. One of Cameron's lesser known films is Alita: Battle Angel. Cameron served as a co-writer on the movie, adapting the Japanese graphic novel series Gunnm. The movie follows the story of a cyborg who is revived after being deactivated who sets off on a quest to understand who she is. In comparison to films like Avatar, Alita: Battle Angel was not a box office dominator, making only $404.9 million worldwide on an estimated $170 million budget. The film also divided critics, but has since developed a devoted cult following. James Cameron's Alita Is Coming Back To Streaming Seven years after its theatrical release, Alita: Battle Angel is now returning to streaming. The movie is coming to Hulu on October 1, giving audiences less than a week to wait in order to catch up on this movie. A big title like this could be positive for Hulu, with high potential for a streaming success for this movie. Currently, Alita: Battle Angel is available to rent on Prime Video starting at $3.99, but it is not available on any major streaming platform free of rental charge. This also comes at a good moment for Alita actor Mahershala Ali. Earlier this year, Ali announced his departure from Marvel's Blade reboot. Without that mainstream film to be attached to, Alita: Battle Angel's return to Hulu gives Ali a chance for a streaming renaissance. Cameron Hasn't Given Up On A Sequel Despite Alita: Battle Angel's underperformance at the box office back in 2019, Cameron has still ongoingly expressed interest in making another movie with director Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez has also previously stated that Cameron swore on a "blood oath" to produce another Alita movie. Meanwhile, a sequel has yet to be confirmed. That said, a streaming resurgence for Alita: Battle Angel, if all goes well on Hulu, could be what Cameron and the team need to regain interest in the franchise.
