Diamonds Are Forever is one of the all-time greatest James Bond adventures, and remains a staple of the franchise even after 70 years. First published in 1956, Ian Fleming's fourth 007 novel follows the iconic secret agent as he goes undercover to infiltrate an international diamond-smuggling operation stretching across Africa and into the US. As longtime Bond fans will recall, his investigation into stolen gemstones escalates into a deadly run-in with the Spangled Mob, a ruthless American crime organization, and its infamous assassins, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd. Along the way, Bond encounters Tiffany Case, a mysterious diamond smuggler who becomes both an invaluable ally and, of course, a romantic interest. The novel was later famously adapted into the 1971 film starring Sean Connery, which substantially reworked Fleming's original storyline while retaining several key characters, and remains a fan-favorite entry even after all these years. Now, 70 years after the novel's original publication, James Bond is officially returning to Ian Fleming's iconic Diamonds Are Forever era with a brand-new sequel arriving in December 2026. Ian Fleming Publications has officially announced James Bond: All In, a brand-new novella arriving on December 3, 2026. Written by bestselling historian and novelist Dan Jones, the upcoming release will take 007 back to the 1950s, returning to the original Ian Fleming era for fans of the early Bond novels. The story takes place in Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka, in 1954, six years after the country gained independence from Britain. As the remaining British colonial presence dwindles, Bond arrives with an urgent assignment involving one of the world's most valuable gemstones. However, unsurprisingly, his mission quickly becomes dangerous, taking him from the "mountains surrounding Kandy to the depths of the ocean floor." According to the official synopsis, things only get more interesting from there, but readers will have to find out for themselves when it launches later this year. You can pre-order All In by Dan Jones on Amazon here. One of the biggest selling points is the return of Tiffany Case, the iconic diamond smuggler and beloved "Bond girl" from Diamonds Are Forever. Her being included draws a direct line to Fleming's original 1956 novel, with the story taking place in the same early-1950s period and seemingly continuing their relationship as well. Although Ian Fleming Publications has described All In as a "tribute" to Diamonds Are Forever rather than explicitly calling it a sequel, the shared characters, timeline, and subject matter mean it effectively functions as a follow-up to the original adventure. It's also a fitting way to celebrate the novel's 70th anniversary. Author Dan Jones is actually best known for historical nonfiction, including The Plantagenets, The Templars, and Henry V, alongside his historical fiction Essex Dogs trilogy. All In is his first James Bond adventure, and its success could determine whether Jones gets another crack at the IP in the future. The special-edition hardcover is available to pre-order exclusively through the official Ian Fleming Shop, while other editions at select retailers are available, all for roughly $18.00, with ebook and audiobook editions also launching globally on December 3. The release additionally supports the National Year of Reading and its "Go All In" campaign, which is a UK-wide initiative designed to reignite a passion for reading and encourage people of all ages to start reading for fun again. Interestingly, Bond fans have another major release to look forward to before then as well, arriving later this month on October 22. Vaseem Khan's The Man with the Golden Compass will arrive as the second installment in The Q Mysteries, following 2025's Quantum of Menace. This spinoff series actually replaces James Bond as the main protagonist to focus on former MI6 gadget expert Major Boothroyd, better known as Q, as he investigates the mysterious murder of a wealthy antique dealer. Together, these two upcoming releases are great examples of how the Bond universe continues expanding beyond Fleming's original adventures, with All In serving as a great tribute to one of his literary classics.
