Actor Isaac Rouse will play James Bond in an audio production of Young Bond: SilverFin (Picture: Big Finish) The wait to discover who will be the next James Bond continues, but one actor has already secured his licence to kill. While Hollywood’s leading men battle it out to replace Daniel Craig on the big screen, a considerably younger star has officially been cast as 007 in an upcoming audio adaptation. Isaac Rouse, best known for his appearances in Netflix’s The Crown, will voice a teenage James Bond in Young Bond: SilverFin. The casting was revealed in a trailer released by Big Finish Productions on Wednesday (October 14), ahead of the audio drama’s debut on October 29. Rouse previously appeared as Ollie Chadwyck-Healey in three episodes of The Crown and played Charlie Bucket in director Sam Mendes’ West End production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now, he’s swapping the chocolate factory for the considerably more dangerous world of international espionage. The upcoming production is based on Charlie Higson’s 2005 novel SilverFin, which explores Bond’s formative years as a student at Eton College in the 1930s. Set long before the secret agent developed his penchant for martinis, Aston Martins and introducing himself by his surname twice, the story follows a young Bond as he begins to develop the skills that will eventually make him Britain’s most famous spy. The original novel was the first instalment in Higson’s Young Bond series, which imagined what the iconic character might have been like before joining MI6. Rouse is best known for his role in Netflix’s The Crow (Picture: Jed Cullen/Dave Benett/Getty Images for British GQ) The actor played Ollie Chadwyck-Healey in Season 6 of the Crown (Picture: BigFinish) It proved a hit with critics upon its release, with The Guardian describing it as a book worth reading even for those who weren’t already fans of the franchise. Higson has since returned to the world of 007 with King Zero, a new Bond novel released in the UK this year, which brings the spy into the present day. Of course, Rouse’s casting doesn’t mean the search for Craig’s successor is over. The next big-screen Bond remains a closely guarded secret, nearly five years after Craig made his final appearance as the character in 2021’s No Time to Die. And the speculation over who might inherit the famous tuxedo has become something of a national obsession. Who will be the next James Bond? Among the actors linked to the coveted role are Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson and Slow Horses star Jack Lowden. The latter recently emerged as a potential contender after Richard Osman claimed on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment that the Scottish actor was being ‘strongly considered’. ‘Someone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day, but I mean that’s happened before,’ Osman told listeners. ‘The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden.’ However, the presenter was quick to clarify that nothing had been confirmed. Slow Horses star Jack Lowden has been rumoured to be preparing to take on the role of 007 in the next film (Picture: Faye / Faye Sadou / Avalon) ‘It is definitively not a “he’s definitely got it” thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing,’ he added. Meanwhile, Turner, who has also been repeatedly tipped for the part, insisted he was as clueless as everyone else about the casting process. ‘I know as much as you do – really, I know as much as you do,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter. ‘Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven’t spoken to for 10 years – and you know nothing! ‘It is such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing. I just find it quite amusing.’ Producer Amy Pascal previously suggested fans could finally have an answer before the end of 2026. Asked about the timeline for a casting announcement, she told Deadline: ‘I would say the end of the year is a good bet. We are being really, really methodical.’ She also hinted that the next Bond could be a significant departure from Craig’s interpretation of the character. ‘Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is a stirring and exciting and different,’ she explained. Dune director Denis Villeneuve has been confirmed to helm the next instalment, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay. However, with the film still in development, audiences could be waiting until at least 2028 to see the next 007 in action. In the meantime, Bond fans will at least have a new incarnation of the legendary spy to get acquainted with when Young Bond: SilverFin arrives on October 29.
