Jaguar Type 01 unveiled with 1,030bhp and 644km range

Revealed in New York, the Type 01 combines a 1,030PS powertrain with an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles (644km).Jaguar Type 01 designThe Type 01 carries over much of the dramatic design approach first seen on the Type 00 concept. It features a long bonnet, a low roofline and a wide stance, while Jaguar’s new ‘strikethrough’ graphic forms a key element at both the front and rear.At the front, the design incorporates four-line LED daytime running lights and slim headlamps. Active aerodynamic elements and a low-drag body help the Type 01 achieve a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23, making it the most aerodynamic Jaguar to date.The car also gets 23-inch wheels, flush door handles and a long wheelbase measuring 3.2 metres. At the rear, the Type 01 does away with a conventional rear windscreen and instead uses a camera-based digital rear-view system. An electronically deployable rear spoiler is also part of the aerodynamic package. Jaguar has retained some unconventional features from the Type 00 concept, including the absence of a conventional rear window and the distinctive body surfacing around the rear fenders.Jaguar Type 01 interior and featuresThe cabin follows a minimalist approach, with a prominent central spine separating the front and rear sections. A large 24-inch display combines the instrument cluster and infotainment functions, while the interior uses brass-finished elements and a mix of premium materials. The front seats get heating, ventilation and massage functions. The Type 01 also features a digital rear-view mirror, while climate and other vehicle functions are accessed through the central touchscreen.The design-led proportions do, however, come with some compromises. The low roof and small side windows restrict the sense of space in the rear, while entry and exit require occupants to negotiate the car's high-sided bodywork.1,030bhp electric powertrainThe Jaguar Type 01 uses a three-motor electric powertrain, with two motors driving the rear wheels and one powering the front axle. The system produces up to 1,030bhp and 1,365Nm of torque.Jaguar claims a 0-100kmph time of 3.2 seconds. The car also gets multiple drive modes and torque vectoring, while its chassis uses air suspension and twin-valve active dampers. Rear-wheel steering helps reduce the turning circle to 11.5 metres.Power comes from a 118kWh usable battery pack. The 850-volt electrical architecture supports DC charging at up to 350kW, allowing the Type 01 to add up to 321km of range in 13 minutes. Jaguar says the car can deliver up to 320 miles (515km) of sustained highway-speed range.Jaguar Type 01 production and India launchProduction of the Jaguar Type 01 is scheduled to begin in 2027 at JLR's Solihull plant in the UK. Its electric drive units and battery packs will be produced in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will come from Halewood, Merseyside.JLR says customers will be able to place orders for the Type 01 in early 2027.
