Jacob Elordi Dishes on Nate’s Demise on ‘Euphoria’ and Breaking Both His Heels: “It’s Like ‘Fight Club'”

But until last night’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 29-year-old hadn’t dished much on the impact it’s had since he became an Oscar-nominated movie star or how he felt about his character Nate’s brutal death. “I don’t know if I’ll ever fathom the sort of size of the show and what it did for me,” Elordi told guest host and fellow Euphoria cast member Colman Domingo (fresh from starring in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day). “I mean, we’re in movies now. Like, you’re leading Spielberg movies and I’m working with Ridley Scott. It’s crazy.” Scott’s latest, The Dog Stars, is what led Elordi to the couch last night with much to discuss. Elordi, coming off a big year that saw him land an Oscar nod for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein followed by a starring role opposite Margot Robbie in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, returned to Euphoria only to see Nate get brutalized time and again by a loan shark and his henchmen due to a failed real estate venture. “I think Sam brought me back to torture me,” Elordi quipped of creator Sam Levinson. “It was like six weeks of me just getting beat by a seven-foot guy. I was just running the whole time.” The first time viewers saw Nate suffer came on the night of his wedding to Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, when he gets pummeled and has his toe cut off. Elordi’s Nate wards off an attacker Eddy Chen/HBO That led to a “lot of people inquiring about my members,” Elordi quipped of the onscreen injury which happened to coincide with an off-screen injury when he broke both of his heels. While the news had been broken by Page Six, it was initially reported that he broke his foot, though Elordi confirmed the injury was much more serious. But he declined to say how it happened. “I broke both my heels earlier this year. Don’t talk about it. It’s like, it’s like Fight Club. I jumped off something,” he revealed of the injury which kept him from joining the prestigious jury at the Cannes Film Festival. “So, I was in a cast and a moon boot the same time that Nate was getting his digits cut off. Everyone thought it was hilarious to be like, ‘Oh, method acting. You did method acting.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I cut my toe off.'” Elordi didn’t have to go method to play out Nate’s demise as he was buried alive in a coffin with a special guest star. “I got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, and I couldn’t see out of my eyes. And then Sam put snakes into the coffin,” Elordi explained, adding that his co-star was much more gentle than he expected. “He had a very nice personality. He was very docile and very sleepy. I don’t think he’d had a lot of sun. … I was kind of nudging him, trying to get him to get active and do the scene, because he was meant to be threatening. But he was like a little dog. He just kept curling up at my feet.” The Dog Stars, which also stars Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley, is set to be released on Aug. 28.
