It’s a fandom that thrives just as much on toys based on the show as it does the show itself, with action figures being an essential ingredient since the debut of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in 1993. For countless collectors, building a shelf of Rangers has become every bit as rewarding as watching them battle evil on screen. As the years have gone on, every era of Power Rangers has been recreated in toy lines aimed at adult collectors rather than younger fans have been released, and none have been more popular than Hasbro’s Lightning Collection, which released 9 waves of high-detail posable 6-inch action figures from 2019-2023. Sadly, in the years since the line concluded, there hasn’t been a comparable run of Power Rangers toys for fans wanting to assemble a collection of their favorite Rangers for display. However, that is about to change. At Walmart CollectorCon 2026, Playmates, who now hold the licensing for new Power Rangers toys, revealed a brand new line that’s once again aimed at adult fans. The Power Rangers Collector Series brings the same level of craftsmanship as the Lightning Collection to one of the most iconic Ranger teams outside of MMPR, and the line couldn’t be coming at a better time for the franchise. Power Rangers Has Found Its Lightning Collection Replacement Image via Walmart In the three years since Hasbro’s Lightning Collection ended in 2023, the Power Rangers toy lines have been aimed at younger fans. They’re toys made predominantly with play in mind, rather than display. Playmates' Power Rangers: Re-Ignition line, for example, has been a nostalgic return to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers action figures in the style of the 1990s toys. They’re charming, but they lack the detail and finesse that drew adult collectors to the Lightning Collection line in droves. The newly revealed Power Rangers Collector Series finally changes that. Every highly detailed 6-inch figure features 22 points of articulation, allowing dynamic action poses to create displays that capture the spirit of the Rangers and the action of the show. Each figure also includes an extensive selection of accessories, from interchangeable heads to signature weapons, making the new Collector Series line feel like premium products rather than standard retail toys. A welcome surprise is Playmates' choice of debut team. Instead of beginning with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the company has launched the Collector Series with all six members of Power Rangers Zeo including the iconic Zeo Gold Ranger (the Jason Scott version rather than Trey of Triforia). For fans who have long argued that Power Rangers Zeo deserves more attention, it is an inspired way to launch a premium line. All in all, it’s clear that the void left by the Lightning Collection is finally being filled. Even the packaging of the Collector Series reflects this, with the figures packaged in high-quality window boxes rather than blister packs designed to slide on a display rack in a toy store. Which team Playmates chooses to bring for the next wave of the Collector Series has yet to be revealed, but starting with Zeo is a positive sign that, as the years go by, fans may finally be able to have premium displays of their favorite Ranger teams from every era with no missing members. It's A New Era For Power Rangers The arrival of the Power Rangers Collector Series is exciting because it finally fills the gap left by the Lightning Collection, but its timing is even more important for the franchise itself. After several years of uncertainty following the end of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury in 2023, nearly every corner of the Power Rangers property is beginning to move forward again. The biggest development is, expectedly, on screens. Hasbro and Disney are developing the Power Rangers reboot for Disney+. The new Power Rangers TV show will establish an entirely fresh timeline with a serialized, prestige TV approach. On the page, BOOM! Studios’ line of Power Rangers comics are going from strength to strength, with both the rebooted Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers Unlimited titles arriving this year to huge acclaim, and the Tommy Oliver-focused Power Rangers Green debuting in just a few weeks. Meanwhile, Playmates is helping restore excitement in the toy aisle from two different directions. Power Rangers: Re-Ignition celebrates the franchise's history through nostalgic toys, while the new Collector Series targets longtime fans seeking premium display action figures.
