Sign in to your ScreenRant account Titus Welliver's latest hit series has taken a dip. Since making his acting debut with the cult classic action film Navy SEALs and acclaimed legal drama Matlock, Welliver has found widespread acclaim on both the big and small screens thanks to everything from HBO's Deadwood to Ben Affleck's The Town. His career-making turn came about with Prime Video's series of adaptation of Michael Connelly's iconic Harry Bosch novels, leading the seven-season original and its three-season Legacy sequel. After carrying on the role of Bosch in the spinoff series Ballard, Welliver found his first new TV role with The Westies. Created by Godfather of Harlem duo Chris Brancato and Michael Panes, the MGM+ series saw Welliver star as Glenn Keenan, an NYPD officer with ties to the eponymous Irish-American mob organization, thanks to his childhood friendship with leader Eamon Sweeney, who finds himself torn between his varying loyalties. Alongside Welliver, the ensemble Westies cast included J.K. Simmons as Eamon, Tom Brittney, Jessica Frances Dukes, Stanley Morgan, Sarah Bolger, Allen Leech and Hamish Allan-Headly. The crime series marked a return to form for Brancato and Panes with critics, garnering strong reviews for its performances and leaning into its genre's familiarity, giving it a No. 1 spot on MGM+ for over a month straight, until now. The Westies Has Ended Its No. 1 Streaming Era MoviestillsDB Since its July 12 premiere, The Westies has almost exclusively held the No. 1 position on MGM+, apart from a brief four-day dip to the No. 4 spot before returning on July 20. At the time of writing, per FlixPatrol, the Welliver-starring crime thriller has officially ended its era of being No. 1 on the platform, with Kit Harington's A Tale of Two Cities adaptation overtaking the series on the streamer to knock Welliver down to No. 2. Interestingly, this also resulted in a dip for fan-favorite horror-mystery series From, dropping to the No. 3 position. Though it may be a touch disappointing, this streaming shift shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. In addition to A Tale of Two Cities having freshly premiered on MGM+ on September 6, it's also been over two weeks since The Westies season 1 came to a close on the platform. Therefore, it's only natural for the crime thriller to gradually start to fall on the streamer's charts. Even with the dip, that doesn't inherently mean The Westies doesn't have a new future on MGM+. Not many reviews have rolled out for Harington's new adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, and should it fail to garner the same word of mouth that Welliver's series did during its initial eight-episode run, his new crime drama could very well reclaim its top spot very soon. Furthermore, though it's yet to get an official greenlight from the platform, Brancato and Pines have previously confirmed their plans for a potential Westies season 2, even expressing prior to its premiere that they were "confident" they'd get a renewal order soon. Given how successful the show was in its first month of release, and the duo's strong history with MGM+ after Godfather of Harlem, it does seem likely that a renewal may be on the horizon. Harry Bosch’s full name is Hieronymus Bosch, named by his mother after the famous 15th-century Dutch painter known for his fantastical and nightmarish imagery. It’s an unusual name that reflects his mother’s artistic sensibility. ✗ Case closed — incorrectly! The answer is Hieronymus. Harry’s mother named him after the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch, whose surreal works depicted visions of hell and human folly. It’s a fitting namesake for a detective who spends his career staring into the darkness of human nature. ARampart Division BRobbery-Homicide Division CHollywood Division DWilshire Division ✓ Correct! Bosch works as a homicide detective in the Hollywood Division of the LAPD. The Hollywood Station is his home base, and the show uses real Los Angeles locations extensively, giving the series its distinctive noir atmosphere. ✗ Case closed — incorrectly! AMichael Connelly BJames Ellroy CDennis Lehane DDon Winslow ✓ Correct! Michael Connelly created Harry Bosch in his 1992 debut novel “The Black Echo.” A former crime reporter for the LA Times, Connelly has written over 20 Bosch novels. He also serves as an executive producer on the TV series, ensuring its authenticity. ✗ Case closed — incorrectly! The answer is Michael Connelly. While James Ellroy (“L.A. ALance Reddick BJason Gedrick CMark Rolston DJamie Hector ✓ Correct! Jamie Hector plays Jerry Edgar, Bosch’s steadfast partner and one of the few people Harry truly trusts. Lance Reddick (also a Wire alum) plays Chief Irvin Irving in the show. NEXT → 05 Harry Bosch is a devoted fan of jazz music, and the show’s soundtrack is steeped in it. Which real-life jazz musician is Bosch’s all-time favorite, frequently heard playing on his turntable? AMiles Davis BArt Pepper CJohn Coltrane DThelonious Monk ✓ Correct! Art Pepper is Harry Bosch’s favorite jazz musician, a West Coast jazz alto saxophonist whose troubled life and brilliant artistry mirror Bosch’s own duality. Bosch listens to Pepper’s records at home in his hillside house overlooking the Cahuenga Pass, often while working a case late at night. ✗ Case closed — incorrectly! The answer is Art Pepper. While Bosch appreciates many jazz artists, his deepest connection is to Art Pepper — a brilliant but self-destructive LA jazz musician. Pepper’s music is practically a character in the show, setting the melancholic, contemplative tone of Bosch’s late-night case reviews. NEXT → 06 After the original “Bosch” ended its seven-season run on Amazon, Titus Welliver returned in a spinoff series. What is the title of this continuation? ABosch: Cold Case BBosch: Dark Sacred Night CBosch: Legacy DBosch: City of Bones ✓ Correct! “Bosch: Legacy” continues the story on Amazon Freevee (later moved to Prime Video), with Bosch now working as a private investigator. His daughter Maddie, played by Madison Lintz, has followed in his footsteps and become an LAPD officer herself, creating a compelling new dynamic. ✗ Case closed — incorrectly! The answer is “Bosch: Legacy.” The spinoff picks up with Harry Bosch as a PI after leaving the LAPD, while his daughter Maddie begins her own career as a patrol officer. The title reflects both Harry’s legacy as a detective and the legacy he’s passing to his daughter. NEXT → 07 Harry Bosch’s personal history is deeply traumatic and shapes his obsession with justice. What happened to his mother when he was a child? AShe was murdered, and the case was never solved BShe abandoned him and disappeared CShe died in a car accident DShe was wrongfully imprisoned ✓ Correct! Bosch’s mother, Marjorie Lowe, was a sex worker who was murdered when Harry was 11 years old. Her case went unsolved for decades, and this personal tragedy is the driving force behind Bosch’s relentless pursuit of justice for every victim — especially those society overlooks. ✗ Case closed — incorrectly! The answer is she was murdered, and the case was never solved. Marjorie Lowe’s unsolved murder haunted Harry throughout his life and directly shaped his philosophy that “everybody counts or nobody counts” — the belief that every victim deserves justice regardless of who they were. Bosch’s cantilevered house sits on Woodrow Wilson Drive in the Hollywood Hills, overlooking the Cahuenga Pass with views of the Universal City lights below. The deck scenes — Harry with his jazz, a drink, and the glittering LA basin spread out before him — are some of the show’s most defining images. ✗ Case closed — incorrectly! The answer is the Cahuenga Pass and the Universal City lights. Bosch’s stilt house in the Hollywood Hills is practically a character in the show. The sweeping nighttime views of the pass and the city lights below create the perfect backdrop for a detective who never sleeps.
