It's officially the end of an era for The Pitt on HBO Max, just a few short months before the medical drama's riveting return. The Pitt's success on HBO Max is unmatched in the world of medical dramas, with the show quickly becoming a massive critical success after its debut in 2025. This includes the series winning 11 Emmys across both seasons, including two wins for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Casting, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama for star Noah Wyle. Katherine LaNasa also won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama. HBO Max plans for the medical drama to be a yearly release, expecting to have a new season ready to air at the start of every year. As of writing, The Pitt season 3 is planned for release in early 2027 and will consist of 15 episodes, just like the previous ones. It's also likely going to be a popular return, considering the accolades the previous seasons earned, alongside both positive critical reception and high levels of viewership for both of the existing seasons. But, mere months away from its return, The Pitt has suffered a setback on streaming. According to data from October 5, 2026, the medical drama is no longer in the Top 10 on HBO Max globally. What's more, the show doesn't appear on the Top 10 for Amazon Channels, either, meaning the series has entirely lost its worldwide footing in the Top 10 on streaming. It's a rather surprising development, considering how well the show has performed throughout its lifespan, but one that reflects the length of time the show has been succeeding for. Although it's surprising, there are a few factors as to why The Pitt is no longer in the Top 10. For one, the show's latest episode aired in April 2026, meaning it's been six months since the latest hour of the show. After so much time, it's inevitable the series will fall to the wayside as new shows arrive. This is especially the case for HBO Max, which, in recent months, has seen popular new originals like Lanterns, War, and Youth take over the Top 10. The Show Is About To Enter An Entirely New Era Warrick Page/HBO Max The news of its fall from grace on streaming comes ahead of the show entering a whole new era. The Pitt's characters are going through some major changes, including a major shake-up for the cast. This includes Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) leaving the show, while recurring cast member Parker Ellis (Ayesha Harris) will be promoted to main cast member. Dr. Javadi is also changing up her focus, being on her psychiatry rotation the next time audiences see her. These big changes mean season 3 will feel very different from the previous two installments. What's more, some cast members are expected to arrive later than the first episode while maintaining their regular roles. This includes Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi), whose diagnosis at the end of The Pitt season 2 will be followed up on. Season 3 also takes place a few months later, meaning there will have been plenty of major developments in the interim. While The Pitt is no longer on HBO Max's Top 10, history dictates it'll be up there again once new episodes arrive. Release Date January 9, 2025 Network Max Showrunner R.
