The Clone Wars is one of the best Star Wars shows ever made, and by far the most influential. For a litany of reasons, The Clone Wars started the prequel trilogy of Star Wars movies' renaissance, it spawned an entire franchise of connected animated shows like The Bad Batch, and it eventually led to Dave Filoni taking on the role of Lucasfilm's president and chief creative officer. The Clone Wars is also still impacting Star Wars to this day. Dave Filoni's role at Lucasfilm is obvious. On top of that, the animation style of The Clone Wars is still the dominant style of the entire franchise, Ahsoka Tano has become one of the best characters in Star Wars with her own solo show, and the entire prequel era of the Star Wars timeline has gotten countless hours of screen time in recent years. It's hard to overstate just how impactful The Clone Wars has been, both in the real world and in the galaxy far, far away. Even though it's been six years since the ending of The Clone Wars, the show's legacy can still be seen everywhere, in everything from Maul - Shadow Lord to The Mandalorian and Grogu. The era of The Clone Wars dominating all of Star Wars, however, may soon be coming to an end. Ahsoka Season 2 Feels Like The Culmination Of Dave Filoni's Star Wars Stories Credit: Lucasfilm Ahsoka season 2 is a direct product of The Clone Wars in a number of ways, from its title character to its inclusion of Anakin Skywalker and flashbacks to Ahsoka's time as his padawan to Dave Filoni working as the showrunner. It's also more than just a product of The Clone Wars, however. Ahsoka season 2, in many ways, feels like the culmination of everything Filoni has created for Star Wars up to this point. The trailer for Ahsoka season 2 has already revealed that Ahsoka and Anakin are getting more flashbacks to the Clone Wars, that Rebels characters like Ezra Bridger and Zeb Orrelios will reunite, and that Grand Admiral Thrawn is threatening the entire New Republic. Every major project that Filoni has worked on, including the Mandoverse at large, is coming together for one massive showdown with Thrawn. Ahsoka season 2 feels like everything The Clone Wars, Rebels, and the Mandoverse have been building to. Decades of characters, storytelling, and more seems to be coming to an end. Ahsoka is finally reckoning with the wounds of her past by speaking with Anakin's Force ghost. Ezra, Sabine, and the Ghost crew are finally having their final showdown with Thrawn. Thrawn is also the culmination of the entire Imperial Remnant threat that The Mandalorian and Ahsoka have been built upon. It's all coming to a head in Ahsoka season 2. The Clone Wars Era's Future In Star Wars Is Uncertain After Ahsoka Season 2 Because all of these Dave Filoni Star Wars stories are coming to their climax in Ahsoka season 2, the future of The Clone Wars' influence on the franchise is rather uncertain. If Ahsoka season 2 does wrap up all these loose ends, from Ahsoka's relationship with Anakin to Thrawn's hold on the Rebels crew, there won't be much left to do with the characters and stories of The Clone Wars. Upcoming Star Wars Movies & Shows Title Release Date Ahsoka Season 2 January 20, 2027 Star Wars: Starfighter May 28, 2027 Maul - Shadow Lord Season 2 TBA New Jedi Order TBA Simon Kinberg's Trilogy TBA Dawn of the Jedi TBA Star Wars: Visions Season 4 TBA Star Wars' immediate future also doesn't look terribly promising for The Clone Wars. Though the show has dominated the franchise for years now, none of the upcoming Star Wars movies are set anywhere near it. Starfighter, New Jedi Order, and Simon Kinberg's trilogy are all set in the sequel era, while Dawn of the Jedi is thousands of years earlier. Even future Star Wars shows after Ahsoka season 2 don't have much hope for The Clone Wars, as Maul - Shadow Lord is the only one connected to the earlier series at all. Star Wars may simply be moving on from the Clone Wars going forward. Filoni's stories are pretty much all wrapping up in Ahsoka season 2, and this portion of the timeline has been explored in very intricate depth. Disney and Lucasfilm may decide it's time to focus on the sequel era instead. Nothing's set in stone yet, but the era of The Clone Wars being the main influence of Star Wars is seemingly over.
