It’s Officially The End Of An Era For Harley Quinn

Sign in to your ScreenRant account Five months ago, Harley Quinn didn’t take her breakup with Poison Ivy well at all. Ivy had broken up with Harley when she became Mayor of Gotham City, and the only way that Harley could reconcile with that was by literally splitting herself into two distinct halves of herself: one half being Harley’s brain, dubbed Harleen, and represented with a brain-pink skin hue; and one half being a Harley who would don a cape and cowl to become Batquinn, a “grim sentinel of justice.” A lot has happened since Harley split herself in twain, and many fantastic side characters have come and gone in the book. Now, with Gotham City being terrorized by the Parliament of Trees and Gotham City Police Commissioner Vandal Savage, Harley—not Batquinn, not Harleen, but Harley—is here to save the day. In Harley Quinn #65, out today, Batquinn and Harleen’s showdown resulted in both halves of Harley coming together and merging as one once more. It’s a tear-jerking moment, with Harley essentially coming to terms with who she is and how the heartache she’s suffered has affected her. Harleen explains to Batquinn that being herself is all that matters, and not something she should be willing to sacrifice, before Harley reconnects with Harley Quinn’s eccentric supporting cast and vows to get Poison Ivy back. Sadly, this pursuit could ultimately end in tragedy. DC’s massive Batman: Bad Seeds crossover event began today with Poison Ivy #47 behaving as a prelude to Batman: Bad Seeds - Sunset #1, and Harley Quinn #65 is a beautiful amuse-bouche for both as one era ends and another begins for her character. It would’ve been interesting to see how Batquinn and Harleen tackle a Gotham City overgrowth, sure, but it makes sense for Harley to be her own fully formed individual again if she’s finally ready to confront her emotions and pursue her lover. Harley and Ivy reuniting in this event won’t be fulfilled until the tail-end, making it an incredibly climactic reunion after all, and it could have quite a tragic ending. It’s been teased that Ivy will die by the end of the Batman: Bad Seeds event, and her death will be doubly tragic if Harley gets to say a final goodbye to her. Meanwhile, the solicitation for Harley Quinn #66 reads as follows: Ahh, finally time for a nice relaxing—what the heck?! I just got my life back to normal, and now the whole city is gettin’ torn apart by prehistoric plants, poisonous pollen, and ahhh… dangit, I ran outta P words for alliteration, so uhhh... terrible treeoids? I got a bad feeling my one true love, Poison Ivy, is behind alla this. I guess I gotta get my butt down to City Hall stat! Harley Quinn #65 is out now.
